Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the direction of a head unit replacement guide? Before I start a different long thread of what my problem is, I may find it in a good guide if there is one? I found a MK4 one, but not sure how applicable that is to a MK2.

Ok so here is my conundrum.....

My Leon came with a Chinese double din unit when I bought it. No apple car play, so I bought a Sony double din to get car play.

I wrongly assumed this would be a simple swap over!!!!

What I’ve realised is, the existing unit is not double Din. So, what fascia do I need now?

Also, the current wiring loom adapter is quad lock to Chinese head unit. I need iso to quad lock for the Sony. Or, could I just swap the Sony block onto the Chinese loom? Is this a messy job?

Also, the Chinese loom has the Fakra aerial adapter and a can bus for the steering wheel controls. If I swapped the Chinese block to the Sony block, would he can bus still work?

I feel like I’ve tied myself up in knots lol. Hopefully someone will make sense of this!!

No guarantee any of it will work, might have to buy a couple of adaptor cables.

Might have been easier to get an RNS-315 unit?

Argh!!!

I'm going to have another look at what I already have tonight and see if any of it is salvageable.

So, as I see it, if I pretend this is a new install and I was removing the OEM head unit, I'm thinking I would need:

  1. Fascia adapter: http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT23ST05 I have seen different types of these for sale. Some are just the trim, others come with a cage. Is the silver cage necessary, or will it just be fine with the cage that comes with my Sony plus a trim to fill in the gaps?
  2. Antenna adapter: http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT27AA14 I'm pretty sure I can re-use the one that's already there. I get why this is needed.
  3. Steering wheel control: http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CTSST001.2 This particular one looks like its the whole thing > quadlock to ISO plus steering wheel. Anyone any experience with this piece of kit? Looks like you can get a universal or Sony connection lead.

CT23ST05 looks to be the kit you need, you won't need to also but the steering wheel control CTSST001.2 as thats already included in the kit right??

You'll need a patch lead for your Sony stereo though, you might have to refer to the Sony manual to figure out what patch lead is required - sometimes there are a few options?
