Hi all
Looking to get a bit brighter bulbs in my mk2
Are the standard spec really poor?
Any recommendations to replace them with?
Also think they are h7- can anyone confirm
Cheers

H7 Osram Night Breakers take some beating at around £15 a pair.. Just tried some Philips White Vision which are supposed to be 4300k colour to match factory HIDs but I found them only slightly whiter than the Night Breakers and quite a bit down on light output so the NB's have gone back in..

I know they are not legal but if you want an increase in light output but not fussed about being any whiter light, what about the Osram 65w H7's? Not sure what people thoughts are on these or if they are ok on the stock wiring and fuse. 2100lumen output as opposed to 1500~lumens for a stock 55w bulb and no reduction in life like some of these 'upgrade' bulbs. I fully accept they are not road legal but meant to be the best of the halogen setups?

Mtec are good if you want a white output or as white as youll get with a halogen. But as for throw of light and visibility they are terrible. When you put a blue lense around the top of the bulb it cuts of the yellow part of light but also reduces the amount of light the bulb can give off. I think the night breakers or philips xtreme bulbs seem the best just they will only last about 200-300 hours whereas a normal 55w is rated at 500 hours according to manufacturers.

They aren't road legal though. Or was that the diamond vision bulbs? I can't remember now haha
Diamond vision definately aren't, can't actually remember about crystal. Either way I have had them in my car for over a year or so and they passed mot. No one will ever check your bulbs for British standard markings so I wouldnt worry. Its only hid's people get funny about.

I think I got mine from auto bulbs direct or similar for 28 quid with matching sidelights. They were the closest thing I could find to the colour of my drls.

They are better. Take a bit of getting used to when you fit them as white compared to yellow, lights the road so differently. But after the initial period they are so much better. When my mrs drives the car I can tell she's in the road before I see her cos the beam is so good for a halogen bulb

Just checked, they are not road legal in the EU. Might give them a miss now.... Damn they look good though!

Like i said no one will notice, have you ever seen anyone remove a bulb to check it during an mot or a police stop check.
Most officers won't be interested, an d those that are will only care if you have a blown bulb or one out of line causing undue dazzle. Believe me I know!
