Heater not blowing properly

I have searched but i cant find anything on this subject. Maybe ive just missed it.

The heater in my car is quite frankly s***.

When its on number 4 it blows like it should, really strong etc. But on number 3,2 and 1 there is hardly nothing. There is alittle bit being blowen out but not much. Which means when the windscreen gets steamed up you have to run it on 4 all the time to keep it clear.

Is this a new heater motor or a new resistor? I know a new thermostat, could this be anything to do with it?

Price and/or part number for a resistor would be helpful.

Thanks All

Craig.

try checking the heater controls. take of the fascia panel around the switches and check that the copper on the switch is connecting properly. if it doesent connect it doesent work! just try bending it in at the top with a srew driver. thats wat was up with mine and now works perfectly.

If its blowing on 4 and not on the others it will probably be your heater matrix (i think thats what its called). Its situated on the passenger side below the dash. Easy enough to replace and iirc about £30 from dealer.

Is that the actually motor or is it something different?? £30 is actually that bad. Think my local parts department will be getting a phone call in the next few days.

The part im on about is definitely not the the motor. If you get right under the dash (passenger side) you'll see it. Its a black block and you can see wires connecting to it. You can get better access if you take the glove box out.

apart from the controls playing up personally id say its the resistor/rheostat that is the block described above on the passenger side of the heater box

basically its a control unit that limits (resistor) the current to the motor and keeps itself cool by being in airflow

they are common for melting and as the pos.4 goes straight to the motor bypassing it its usually a sign thats its gone

the matrix is the radiator part so dont ask for one of them

Yeh wasn't sure what the part was called.

So it is the resistor that im after?? Is it an easy job to change it? My heater works great on number 4 but theres hardly anything on 1, 2 and 3. Breathing heavily yourself is probably more powerful!!

No mate. If it is the part that i mentioned then its an easy job. Literally unplug the old one and plug in the new one. DOnt go anywhere near the heater controls or facia. Like i mentioned before its on the passenger side, under the dash.

But i will just say that when mine went, there was no air blowing on 1,2 or 3 at all. Only setting 4 worked properly.

Well I'm certain i have the same problem as you did. I have nothing on 1,2 or 3. Only 4 works. The only air i get on 1,2 and 3 is the air thats being forced through with car moving. Nothing else

You dont have a part number for the part i need?

Same thing happend on my old Pug 205 - very similar unit stupidly fitted in passenger footwell. Of course, I didn't find out until I'd taken out the whole dash/heater/controls. :censored:

Whilst you're at it, its well worth changing the pollen filter. Makes a MASSIVE difference to the airflow when its dirty even when it doesn't look too bad.
