I know that these 'inserts' have been the basis of a number of DIY, badgeless grills and I fancy going down that route. Has anyone on this forum actually completed this mod? Also, is the insert, which was designed to be located behind the vertical slat grill, sufficiently robust to use on it's own?

I think there are two options. You can either do the mod using that part listed in the above post, which is around £35. Or you can buy a new front grill which is a 2 min mod and cost around £90. If you go to a stealers and ask for a 2011+ front grille then you'll be ordering the right one.

Just found my bill part number 3ro853651a and was 68 +vat from tps Sheffield

So did you change from a standard early slatted grille to the honeycombe grille part number 3ro853651a.

I emailed them before and was told it was not the complete grille and was ment to be fitted behind the standard slatted grille.

This one is the complete, newer style grill. The other 'piggyback' insert is 3R0052535 and it is the basis of the DIY no-badge grill.

I make it that including postage it's around £75 off ebay. If you go down your local TPS or Seat Dealer and smile nicely they often give you 10% which would make it around £82.... Maybe worth a shot? Less faff if it comes broken etc too.

Thats a shame mine arrived from Austria yesterday. I plant to fit it on Thursday. Its a genuine SEAT part 3R0853651A 9B9 Made in Spain. The service from the seller was excellent and fast with a tracking number.

I've managed to order one of these this morning :D

Can any of you fine chaps explain to me how to get those two clips out from the top of the one on the car without breaking them.

In fact how to do the job in total would be great, even better with pics :p

Honeycomb grille fitted easy enough to do (no need to remove bumper). Remove the two plastic rivets by prising the flat top centre up till it pops. Spring the latches on the two top corners of the old grille. Tilt the grille forward and spring the bottom two latches, lift it out, No need to remove the top valance torque bolts as I did.

The part number given on the back is 3R0853654A not the one on the box I gave earlier. The plastic rivets I showed in the previous reply dont fit they are too big but are the same style

Fourth pic, plastic rivets:

Fifth pic, new grille bonnet open (NOTE the plenum battery cover mod IS visible):

Sixth pic, new grille bonnet closed:

Seventh pic, new grille closeup:

Really pleased with this mod, I think it looks a lot better than the original which is a mismatch with the rest of the front of the car.

So I lever up in the centre, and the entire grill pops out. Won't the existing clips break, and aren't there any other fixing mechanisms around the inside edge of the grill.

I've ordered those clips.

Thank for the help Vinny
