All the reviews so far seem to prefer the Clio as a hot hatch.

True, but then again the road testers just go out on a jolly driving the things flat out which is where the Clio's engine and chassis will shine.
Maybe a different story if they run one as a long termer. Assuming there's a brave enough journo to go against the flow.

The new Clio is remarkably ugly too. In my humble opinion of course

Don't be too sure - I used to have a Mk4 Cupra and the Megane 225 Cup I am running now is a far better ride - the Cupra was crashy in comparison.

the mk4 truth be told was **** though. And the megane is a much better car.

I would have a clio 197 over this. This car is a sad excuse for a cupra with a measly 180hp when the competition are offering alot more power with a more focused chassis.

It does need more power really doesn't it? And a manual box too....;)

yep, although DSG is faster many people prefer a cheap manual box.

They should have shoe horned in the new 1.8 TSI into this baby and gave it 210hp.

You can see why they didn't though, one for emisions and the green brigade and one so it doesn't have more power than the leon range.

Even before i'd seen the review i knew it wouldn't perform as well as the Clio in road tests, the Ibiza's always seem good, but don't excel.

Had this argument with someone before and the 1.8tsi is basically just as clean as the 1.4tsi and gets the same mpg.

mk4 I biza cupra had more power than the mk1 leon fr's so why not now?

Nice scirocco btw.

Cheers mate.

The 1.4 is a peach of an engine though, i had one in a golf plus courtesy car (122bhp) and it was pretty nippy and got upto speed well. They also sound pretty cool when lifting off the throttle, it seems to have a proper atmospheric dv. Some of the 1.4 rocco guys are getting 220 bhp from theirs after revo, so they are pretty tunable.
