just a thread to see what has been cracking, falling off, rattling inside and outside your Leons since you purchased them?

what niggling problems? major problems? loves and hates about your car?

what other cars have you surprised yourself against? like what have you beaten and what cars have you upset?

the setup for my handling on my Ibiza was perfect, and handled superbly! Is the Leon very heavy round corners etc. understeer oversteer?

straight line speed?

 :D :) ;)

Ps. As you can see i am getting old, wanting a decent car, what next, flat cap and pipe me thinks!:p

From new i had the following:

Washer jets misalined
Wadding in Dash board out - getting done at 1st service coa don't want to be without her.

These are the only 2 issues i've had. It rattles a bit, but i guess because i'm used to driving French cars i don't notice it! :D

Love - the looks

The Cupra is very easy to get along with, as in just because you get a lot of power on tap doesn't mean it has to be uncomfortable.

I've played with:

Honda Civic TypeR - Level up to 100 on 'private Road' going up hill
Audi S3 - Couldn't lose me, nod of approval.
Audi A4 2.4 - quite funny, he was ragging it and i sat right on him and he had to move over :) he was not ammused.
The list goes on, basically it's quick enough to embarras most things on the road depending on the driver - just good fun.

Since i;ve done 8K or so the engine seems to be getting smoother, plus the cold weather makes it better. The Leon is actually quote chuckable, it does understeer a bit - but a high powered fronty does that - just get used to it and it's no issue.

Just make sure you put 98Ron in, i tried 95 as the garage said it made no difference! try 98 afterwards and try telling me that! different car.....

Since getting the Cupra i actually get less people hassling me as it does seem to be commanding a fair ammount of respect these days.

IMHO

*Celica 190 T Sport
*Mini Cooper S
*Equal (neither of us pulling away) to a Mini Cooper S works which i know has also been chipped
*Astra 2.2 (not sure whether turbo)

Astra Turbo is a 2.0

Problems on mine:

- Exhaust gasket replaced under warranty as it was blowing

- coil packs replaced (twice)

- horn replaced (twice)

Nothing else yet (probably jinxed myself now), but still love the car.

I find people try and race me all the time, but maybe that's the people that live in Milton Keynes, they all seem to be mad drivers !

I love my car, in spite of the following:

1. Foldy mirror motor packed in
2. Rattling glove box latch on delivery, which then fell off - easy to fix though
3. Rattling from dash
4. Rattling from boot catch
5. Leaking through all four doors, 4 attempts made to fix
6. Leaking through aircon (apparantly) - fixed under warranty
7. Coil packs replaced (all)

All in all about a dozen visits to the garage in 2 years which is not quite reliable in my book. That said, has a Pug 306 before this and it was into the garage on no less than 30 occassions in 18 months (no exaggeration either).

The Leon feels like quality when everything is hunky dory, lovely drive (I never drive too enthusiastically on B roads as I am a bit of a wimp  ) and the dealers are, I would say, better than those I have used in the past (but still way short of perfect).

The interior trim is still in tip-top condition.

The bonnet is a mess of ugly white chips.

The car is a 2002 model with 30k on it

I also had the dodgy brake syndrome when the car was new. In the wet it would fail to stop unless you really stamped on the brake pedal, until the brakes had dried out. Now, there is no problem at all with the brakes.

Oh, and there is a crack in the rear bumper, who put that wall there?

Deep scratches when picked up the car new and later a cracked windscreen replaced under warranty.

squeaks from rear seats - sorted with gaffer tape over bolt - occasional creaking sound from dash. Most annoying is the creaking drivers seatbelt because it is too snug against the seat base. Paint too easily chipped.

Otherwise very good - touch wood

Originally supplied with the wrong gearbox and washer jets totally misaligned (3 of 4 missing the screen!).

Since then, glovebox latch has fallen off (twice), intermittent loss of sound from one/both front door speakers, rear seat rattle (fixed by WD40 method), creaking from centre console, cracked windscreen, failed rear washer, dodgy rear wiper, failed coil pack (only the failed one replaced).

Performance is effortless in a straight line but the handling is less than brilliant on the twisty stuff.

Overall, it's probably the most practical (space, equipment, 5 doors) car offering the level of performance, but due to all the niggles (and poor customer service) I doubt I'd have another one.

New in October 2001. The onlt 'fault' I've experienced was the govebox jammed shut. Fixed quickly by my local dealer. The leather on the drivers seat is still in good condition (this was one of my initial concerns) and stone chips are few and far between.

As for the driving experience, a little too much understeer, but for the money I reckon' it's fine.

No problems except for a loose connection on the speed sensor last week (16,500 miles) that caused the engine warning light to come on. Fixed by the dealer same day. :)

Very happy with the car.

Only had a couple problems on my 01 Cupra - electric window mechanism needed lubricating, sqeaky clutch and dashboard rattle at certain revs.

All sorted by dealer except dash rattle.

Only problem with mine has been a whole new gearbox :D :yikes: ooh and the light switch falls out of the dash if you pull it to turn the fogs on, and the drivers door panel turns into disco lights occasionally..... Apart from that its been the best car I've had though that may change as I'm taking an S4 out for a test drive next saturday ;) I feel that 4.2 V8 calling me :p

Discovered my lower passenger side grille pretty much shattered last night :(

Managed to arrange the bits of honeycomb back into position, but I don't know how long it'll stay put. I'll probably try some superglue at the weekend. Anyone know if you can buy the one grille separately?

Hadn't noticed how hard and brittle the grilles were before - they're usually flexible plasic, especially ones under the bumper.

Only other real complaint so far is how easy the paint is chipped and scratched. Fortunately, my Halfords touch-up paint is a perfect match - it's being put to quite heavy use.

Did you know you can get exact touch up paint from SEAT? stock numbers on the Euro website.

I forgot about this one - it took them 2 months to sort this out and even then it was only found out when someone from another dealership who happened to be there that day said some cars has loose screw which caused a short out.

I guessed you'd be able to, but there's a Halfords 5 mins walk from work, and I knew they did little kits consisting of primer, paint and laquer for about 10 quid. I had to get Skoda Black Magic though, hoping it was the same.

Incidentally, I've noticed a lot of talk about "Deep Space Pearl" being replaced by "Black Magic Metallic". I'm pretty sure Black Magic is pearlescent too.

A lot of the newer Seat paints are not available at Halfords - a mate works there and tried to get me some Platinum. Apparently Seat won't release the paint codes for a few years so they can make a bit of £££ on touch up paint.

I got some from my local Seat dealer, consists of the paint (obviously) and laquer and cost £4.70.

I have a few probs with mine:

1. CD multichanger doesn't load.

2. Dash rattles

3. Rear Seat Rattles (solved by removing the seats and wraping all the mounting points in a couple of layers of duck tape)

4. Fuel cap cover does not open (have to bend the cover by hand until it pops out).

5. Pulls to the left.

6. Bits of trim keep falling out of the front foot wells

7. Dash section behind the steering wheel (Below dials) has not been fitted properly.

All fairly minor and none have stopped me enjoying the car.
