Shopping out of boredom? You women , get a hobby :p

Avoid the 'we will buy your car' places, no doubt they'll give some silly offer.

As for selling right now, its really a buyers market with credit pretty much returning to the traditional 'lend if they can actually afford' ways. There's a good chance it'll remain this way for a while, so if your looking to sell, do so quickly and after January.

Haha, yeah it is a bit 'girly' i must admit
If im not doing that on a weekend im cleaning the car.

I was thinking about selling my car just before i buy a new one i.e a couple of weeks, maybe a month.
I can't really do without a car, as i have to ask a family member to drive me into work for 7.30 in the morning.

depending on where you find your LC, trade in might be a good idea. There's scope for some negotiation more than ever than - especially if you persuade the dealer that giving you a decent trade in is the clincher for you buying from him.

I have a 1.9 SE, 19, 1 years in NCB and paying 1300 this year. Thats with my mum, dad and gf on my policy (which all reduce the premium), and with me being insured on other cars (also reducing.) I'm an accountant too! Its a full £1,000 cheaper this year than last year - £1,300 this year. mainly cos I do so many miles a year. You guys should feel lucky paying what you are!!

1300 for an se tdi? corrrh your getting robbed!
im 20 and im payin 600 a year with 2 years ncb (3 years driving - no crashes!)
and thats with 20k mileage a year (also on se tdi)
my mate (also with se tdi) paid 1100 at 20 with no ncb as we has on his parents policy.

in reply to earlier threads - yes there should be a noticeable reduction between 20 and 21 as you move into a lower risk catagory, and also again at 25.

Benji..if you keep on shopping you could perhaps blag the insurance company by saying your a female! theres a 100% loading on boys over girls in the high risk (young driver) catagory!
also a little tip for you, keep shopping around for insurance prices change all the time, if you use confused or gocompare find the cheapest quote and then go to them directly as its sometimes cheaper. its also a good idea to phone them, you can sometime knock them down a fair bit. also try getting quotes with your mum/dad or just someone older with more experience insured on your policy, sometimes cheaper..sorry about the essay!

Hmm its a possibility i spose! :funk:

It's a good idea to phone up the insurance company actually, might aswell try my luck.

I could perhaps get my mum on the insurance aswell, she has a good few years ncb behind her.
Could prove to be usefull aswell, you never know.
Essay is appriciated! :)

As the title says, i think ive decided to set myself one hell of a challenge and start saving the pennies so i can buy a Cupra.

At the moment im driving a 1.6 SE 01 plate and i had to save pretty hard for that. It cost me £3,995 last Feb and it's my first car. I think it took me around 8 months to save £4000 although i did spend quite a bit at christmas, bought myself a PS3 which wasn't cheap!
This time though, i do have a car to sell which would help massively.

Insurance was a ridiculous £1200 for the year! Purely because i have no driving experience and i was 20 at the time.
With my 1 year's no claims bonus, insurance was £620 for this year. Half what i was paying last year!

I've done some insurance quotes on a cupra (180) and it's back to the drawing board at £1000-£1300 for the year! That's with 2 years no claims bonus as it will take me around a year to save enough, so if i watch myself i'll hopefully have 2 years ncb in a years time.

I've gone through the saving process before and im willing to do it again, but i was just wandering what your thoughts were really?
At 21-22 am i too young to be driving a cupra? I personally dont think so, it will be a jump or about 80bhp which is a lot, but i think quicker cars as safer in a lot of ways and i dont drive particularly fast anyway.

i was almost 22 when i got mine. found that if you dont drive like a toseer you wont have any problems. with 2 years no claims i was paying 700 fully comp on it with direct line.

:-o
That's a brilliant price!
What i didnt do with my quotes was say that i was 22, that could make a difference!
I shall do it now and tell you what the cheapest is...

I got quoted £953!
That is the most realistic price aswell, as my birthday is in November and my ncb would become a year older in December.
So providing i dont get the car before November and keep my ncb in tact, that is the sort of price i will be paying! :D

Good luck with the saving Benji. I doff my cap to you and your sensible approach to life.

Hi Benji, just thought I'd add to the thread... there's been some good suggestions so far!

Overall I think it's a good idea to get a 180 Cupra. I bought mine in November last year, I was 19 at the time. I'm now 20. It's an older, pre-facelift Cupra and is on a W plate. It had 95,000 miles when I bought it, and despite being quite high it's immaculate and doesn't show its age at all and has a good service history! What's more, I bought it from a specialist garage in Leicester and got 6 months warranty for the piece of mind. And I think I got a good deal - it cost £1995. So with a bit of saving if you have a look around, you won't break the bank if you wanted my sort of age Cupra for yourself.

With regards to the power, it is all about attitude without a doubt. I respect the power mine outputs, and absolutely worship it as a car (none of my family share a similar passion for their things - my dad etc think I'm a bit weird because I love my car so much!) . I bought it outright so it's 100% my money. For that reason, I don't want to risk myself or it by driving like a knobhead! I believe you have a similar head on your shoulders - primarily because you aren't being bought it by a rich relative and you are saving for it - like I did. For that reason, you look after your possessions more - if that makes sense.

And with regards to insurance - try Tesco with yours. My Cupra is in my Dads name, and I'm a named driver. Once I'm 21 I'll go on my own policy. At the moment, I pay for the insurance out of my account and it is £70 a month (£900 a year ish after the interest) - Fully Comp too! :funk:

I use a few comparison sites, then go direct to the insurers website, and then ring them up and discuss it on the phone - its been cheaper for me this year and last by doing it that way. Definately whack your parents on there, even if they never use the car. The insurance co figure if you have others on your policy, there is a chance they will be driving and so less chance you will be driving.

Yeah its expensive, but like I said I've got like 20,000 miles, business use, fully comp, the lot basically. I've got 2.5 years driving, no crashes, 3 points. Postcode lottery probably plays a part too. It is expensive, and I'm not sure why - you have a year on me in age and ncb, but I cant see my insurance dropping my half next year, although fingers crossed! Its hardly like I didnt shop around though. I'm sure I could've got maybe 100 or 200 more knocked off but then I'm looking at insurers I've never heard of - it can be hard working with well known co's let alone unknown.

Saying that I've got a local broker I kept telling myself I was going to go and get a quote from, but I cant see that it would've been cheaper.

I think im going through the toughest phase of saving up at the moment.
I have £217 in my bank account! This is the tough bit because i'm nowhere near the target amount (around £6K i think) and i have such a long way to go.
I remember feeling like this when i bought my first car, but i also remember getting on with it and watching the money slowly grow. Also it is very rewarding to reach your target, i will have to keep remembering that, and the buzz you get when you seal the deal!

What may sound stupid is that fact that i keep forgetting i'm selling my car! I should get at least £2K for my 1.6 and that's about a third or even more than that of the amount taken care of.
I think its because i had to save from scratch right upto over £4K the first time around with no help and no car to sell.

This stage is tough but when its 'over' i'll be closer and the hardest bit will be done! :D

sorry to burst your bubble a bit, but its basically saving the same as before - if you could get 2k for your car, you need to save 4k. The same as before!!

I finally paid some cash into my isa, just need to keep doing it now!

saving up is the only way, nothing better than owning your car outright. Yes others may have a new or better car - but your the one smiling cause there is no finance outstanding.

Thus you can pay for your modifications without the aid of plastic friends while the other guy decides to get into more debt to keep up with you!

I think you got a very good deal there! Luckily i think some people still dont take into account that Seat's are basically VW's. It's all about the badge, it must be at the price you got your cupra for!

Unfortunately for my bank balance im after the facelift cupra, part of me wanting one was the fact that i wanted to modify mine a little. Then i thought...it will never be a cupra so why dont i save the pennies and buy one! Insurance is affordable, i think im responsible enough so why not. I've had my mind set on a facelift cupra for a couple of years now .

I think on the whole im quite a cautious person and i know im not gods gift to driving, i do think i would respect the car. I dont like to floor mine at all really, and wouldnt anyway without the engine being warm. :)
I also love my car, a few people give me funny looks i think, because at the work car park mine is always pristine.

I have to buy all of my things, this pc, my telly, my car etc... i think it sets you up well in life because you know the meaning of money! What you said about looking after your posessions is spot on! I'm a firm believer in saving and doing it the hard way. That's why im so anti credit cards!

The one thing i say to people who make comments about cars or my cleaning habits is that a car is probably going to be your second biggest purchase in life so you'd be a fool not to look after it!

Thanks for that mate. :)

That is the best bit!

I remember when i got my car, a week or so later this guy at work said in a sarcastic voice... 'Did daddy buy that for you?'

I said 'no i bought it myself'

He said. 'Oh well done'

I later found out that his dad had to pay off the rest of the money he owed for his car.

my dad did buy my first car (a 1.1L Fiesta in burgandy) but that was a deal he made with me to stay off motorbikes - he was a fireman and had seem some bad accidents.

You should be proud of the fact that you save to spend... its taken me far to long in life to work that out, but thats how I live now!

Plus in a year's time everything will be cheaper etc...

but only £700 for an Ibiza Cupra 2.0 16V, and i got 3 years experience, 2 years no claims, you must live in a good area mate! (i don't lol)
