Idle Rev Limiter

On the cupra's (not so sure about other 1.4tsi engines) but there appears to be a Rev Limiter that has been put into place when the car is idle.

I know some people wont like the idea of removing if for various reasons...? But is there a way to remove the limit so that I am able to rev the car until the overall limiter while the car is in neutral/park? (This is mainly so that I can hear my exhaust, and the turbo/boost.... yes childish i know)

I have been told by someone i know that he thinks it might be because of the map but i have a hunch it could be something else. Thought here would be the best place to spring the question?

    Thanks All

It's a "feature" of all the engines as far as I'm aware. Certainly my 1.6tdi has the same limitation (about 3k iirc)
I'd imagine that it's coded into the engine mapping, and in theory could be mapped out, if the mapper knew what they were doing.

And you won't hear boost at zero load

It's handy for winter warming of the car, just drop a brick on the pedal and go inside :)

There is a limiter on all engines. Mine is a 1.4 and it has one, on 3000 or 4000 rpm i dont remember. However, once i engage the clutch the limiter is disabled.

I might have to speak to AMD and see if they can remove it as they mapped the car, Failing that see if I can find someone that knows how.

I Knew that was coming, However saying that, I have revved cars previously, yes its childish, but doesnt really effect the car if you do it once in a blue moon...
I like to hear the turbo woosh every now and again, and i dont want to have to drive to hear it, That noise can get any car nut to take a second look.

This was my main reason for asking, I have the spacer not too, and it sounds brilliant IMO, However you dont get much of a woosh when its in idol as its limited, You are not getting a full turbo spool so wont be as loud. It does sound amazing when its in gear and i can rev the car up to 5k though. Just a shame I cant get a little turbo pressure into the system at a car show or if i line up at a drag strip just for a little showmanship...

If you want some anti-social noise at a car show just disconnect the vac line to the wastegate and pull the connector for the bypass valve and you get to hear Mr Horsey.

I was changing coilpacks hence everything being disconnected.

I believe that its the mechatronic control unit that's responsible for it, only one place in the uk can read and write to 7speed dry clutch are autograph in Manchester, Others claim to be able to but there are some horror stories of mapping gone wrong, gear box overheating, changing down to 1st gear at 70mph, only even gears can be selected.........

My own experience was with amd who were only asked to see if they could READ the box, and thus in future be able to write to it. They didn't have correct decryption software and ended up triggering a mode within the dsg where I had no control of what it was doing, and took 10 seconds to change gear.

Just had a look on their website and it says they're the manchester based sub dealer for AMD and are based in burnley (that'd be burnley 30 miles away from Manchester). I wonder how they get on directing customers "yeah we're just outside Manchester, 4 towns away, you'll get their from the town centre in an hour!"

They do however look like a decent outfit and seem to be a specialist in gumpert:yes:

    NO!

I know this may be confusing but autograph and amd Essex are not related AT ALL.

AMDessex are trading under the name automotive developments and originated from a previous location and there were two business partners.

They decided to open another branch called Automotive developments TECKNICK(think the name was derived from revo technick which one or both of them worked at at some point). The partner who was responsible for the new facility changed the name to AMD TECKNICK and after a falling out the two companies split.

Automotive developments in Essex took on the AMD logo and name.

AMD tecknik are actually AMD technik and are who autograph work with. They have branched out. Automotive developments(or Amd ESSEX) have only one premise

So they're not in Manchester and they're not affiliated with AMD but they are with AMD technik. Wow, I've just had a nose bleed.

It prevents the boi racer fraternity from bouncing the needle like a metronome on speed. Wost scenario freezing engine in mid winter, jump in and rev the titties off it to make it go brrrrrm tiss how much internal damage. Its there for a reason. Just think these engines are hormonal and tempremental as hell, want to make it worse

Chuck B and the Boc, 3 engines one gearbox and the chance to drive every courtesy car in the SEAT range in the three years I owned it.

you can turn off the rev limiter whilst idle by turning traction control off...
