Info about LCR exhaust system pipe diameter

Hello!
I have a question to ask you about my Exhaust system of my LCR.

My LCR have, GT28R etc... for 315-320 hp, and my exhaust system is composed by CAT brain 200cells 63mm , front and rear silencer are original 63mm.

I've seen here in this forum and in all UK and spanish LCR that your exhausts system are CAT 100cells and front and rear silencer with 2,76" or 70mm of pipe diameter.

Here in italy all tell me to remove completely the cat and use front and rear silencer with 63mm of pipe diameter, because our LCR is a 1800cc and not a 2000cc.

Now, i'd like to know if it's true that 70mm is too much large for our 1800.

Thank you very much...and sorry for my english but i'm italian

our LCRs are 1800cc aswell.

I think the 70mm is still better - wider means there is less restriction.

There is no such thing as a 2000cc LCR buddy. In the UK we have exactly the same 1800cc as you do.

Sure i know that LCR are only 1800... i was saying that here in italy for car with 1800cc like engine, all advise it's better to use 63mm for pipe diameter and for engine of 2000cc like as Escort / Sierra Cosworth and Delta etc. 70mm !

What do you think about it??? ;)

My car uses 75mm downpipe/100cell cat/75mm centre section without resonator/reduced to 70mm over rear axle into silencer

The motor will handle 320 bhp fine on standard pistons/valves/ rods - no need to change

If you want to see what can be done to your car check out RobDon`s great website:funk:

The mods on my car are listed here:)

Thank you very much Songman for your answer and sugestions. I knew about your car and the word to describe it is FANTASTIC. Hope I can still ask for your opinion and advices in the future:)
I had in mind the Garet GT28RS turbo upgrade and REVO SPS3 and remap, but they no longer offer the stage 3 remap for Leon and they were the only ones I could gain acces to here in Romania so I'm a little undecided where to make a proper remap. I mean here are many other firms who perform remaps but Revo was the only ones who had a special program for Leon(stage 3)

Thanks for your kind comments about my car mate:)

So you want to go for the GT28RS - do you have the skills to do this yourself or are you using a tuner?
These `Big Turbo` conversions are great - the car has the strength in design and componentry to make them a realistic proposition for reliable daiy use - but it is a major project, and expensive too - it always costs more than you think to get it right - however, it is easy to get it wrong - and then it becomes very very expensive:blink: especially if you have already invested a lot of money in your car

You can`t look at the project as you would a `remap` - these cars are very fast you must look at the whole car and seek to improve it in all aspects, so that you can use and enjoy the extra power and stay safe at the same time

If your budget is limited, it`s best to go first and upgrade the suspension/brakes/wheels/tyres - also a Quaife or Peloquin diff is a big bonus if your budget will stretch.

As for the turbo upgrade, well it`s not just the turbo - you change the manifold, downpipe, cat, exhaust, injectors, software etc etc!! - its a big job - you will need a Front Mount intercooler too, in order to get the best from the turbo converstion - more money again!!

The latest ATP kits are `bolt on`in a way - they allow you to use the standard downpipe ect and they have a new high flow manifold too - all very new though at the moment, but well worth a look

Revo st3 is a great product and should work well with the ATP/ GT28RS - you couldn`t see it though as a simple `remap` - it is a specialist program which will allow you to get the best from your setup, and you would need to use it in conjunction with a dyno test to get the full advantage - Revo Kev on this forum is very helpful

If I were in Europe I would try and source APR`s stage 3+ - this has been available for a long time for use with LHD transverse - it is a surperb bit of kit but I have no idea of prices or availability

The main point I would make to you is - do it right, or don`t bother at all - doing it right means using recognised quality products from technically reliable sources, and having the work done by someone who knows what he is doing.

Doing it wrong means spending a whole lot of money spoiling a nice car.

Hope this helps:)

Thank you again Songman for the sugestions!!!:D
After I've seen RobDon's project I knew that's the best choice for me eighter.
I don't have the skills to do it (I wish I had ) so I will use a tunner. The thing is that here in Romania is hard to find a good tuner because we are only at the begining of understanding the real tuning there for the GT2X turbo upgrade is the perfect choice for me all thow I know a guy who has mounted the GT28RS on a Skoda Octavia RS with prety good resultates and he didn't invested alot of money, the power have increeased to 350BHP but he didn't invested much in brakes and wheels. He is runing on stock rims with toyo tires, any way his major problem was the software, he made a map here in Romania and the car was runing reayl great but he wasn't pleased about it and he went in Greece the make an ECU map there but that ECU map was much worse than the other one.

I don't realy know the prices to all the parts I will need in order for the GT2X(how much the GT2X costs tehre?) to work proper. I know I will need a FMIC, injectors, fuel presure regulator, full exhaust encluding a downpipe, air intake(now I have mounted on a K&N 57i series filter, will that work well with the GT2X?) cluch, brakes and suspensions. The wheels and tyres are not stock any more I'm runing on 18's with 235/40 R18 tyres. The software I was thinking of doing it to the tuner who made the Skoda Octavia RS, Dimsport is their name.
I must ask you to excuse my engleash, I hope that you can understand all I have writen
Best regardes!!!!

Exactly as I thought! - didn`t imagine for a minute that there were too many good VW tuners in Romania!!

You must be very careful or you will end up with a lot of expensive trouble.

Reading into what you write the only way forward for you is to have the job professionally done - If I were you I would try APR in Berlin and speak to them about their Stage 3 kits
