The quality of my local dealer is shocking, and they are £100 more expensive for my 40k service. I'm not paying £100 more to let a YTS boy learn his trade on my car. I'd rather save £100 and go somewhere like JKM who are tried, tested, proven and honest in what they do. They aren't going anywhere, they will be there still next year when my next service is due.

As for tyres... my local 'one man band' tyre dealer just fitted four GSD3 XL's in 225/40/18 for £420 all in. I'll lick the tyres clean if my local Seat can beat that price! Plus, they are fitted and balanced perfectly and if anything were to be a problem, he would deal without straight away.

That's a very good price indeed! Shame I didn't know sooner, as the guy who did mine price matches!

bind about tyres Rob - some main dealers can actually be cheaper for tyres than independant - I usually shop around a bit and then go back to dealer who seems to manage to match the price. There is a lot to be said for sticking to main dealer servicing. Plenty back up and support if something goes wrong.

couldnt disagree more strongly! but i guess it depends on the individual dealer

I've just brought an empty wallet back from my LC's 60k service which also included a cam belt change and new water pump, new pads and discs all round, TWO new front suspension bushes replaced - one for each front wheel - and to round it off nicely a weld to re-fix the exhaust bracket.

Almost fell off my chair at work when Kate at JKM gave me the good news. Glad it's been done even though I didn't get a lot of change from £1000. All the knocks and squeaks have gone which is reassuring. They're expensive every now and again, but worth every penny.

Thumbs up to JKM.

Got to nurse the brakes for a while now. Gutted.

At least it's done now though and you can drive it knowing these things are sorted and everything is sorted :)

I'll tell you tomorrow when it's done

It's around the £230 area because I want the super-dooper, long life oil :)

Nope, was taken on my driveway. Most new housing builds look the same these days though, no character at all so one estate looks the same as the next.

Main dealers are always expensive. And as I said above, I'm not prepared to pay more to let the YTS boy practice on my car.

Find a good independent VAG specialist in your area and give them a call. You might be surprised.

To be fair though... the price you've been given is pretty good for main dealer prices, cheaper than my local, but still more than an independent :)

I totally agree with Rob about finding a decent VAG specialist. I'm lucky to live less then 20 miles from Awsome GTi. Those guys love your car almost as much as you do. :D

You get a cheaper and, IMO, a better service and the knowledge that they won't be out thrashing your motor cos they see them everyday. You can still do some serious wallet damage there though.

damn, £230???? how can it be so different???? mine would be £245 if i provide my own oil!

Just had my 40k service on mine (LC), plus MOT and a bit of welding on the exhaust bracket, grand total £444.

Looking for a local independent now as I was let down by the dealer (see other post). Add tax and insurance and it's taken a large chunk out of my wife's 30th birthday fund.

Had the service done today :)

Had to have new brakes up front, 40k service and a new CV boot so has been quite an expensive day, but the car feels great for it. JKM also said I'll need to replace my offside wishbone bush sometime soon, but they didn't have the parts in stock to do there and then, so I'll take it back down later.

Fantastic and friendly service as always from JKM... Thanks to you all, and see you soon no doubt when you get the part in for the bush ;)

On the upside, I've now got Ferodo DS pads and an uprated Dogbone mount, which is nice! That, combined with the GSD3 tyres and the service has made the car feel great though :D
