I'm looking at getting a mk3 Leon 2 litre diesel, preferably an FR for the extra standard kit and looks. My normal driving during the week consists of a couple of 3 mile round trips to pick my son up from day care plus a 50 mile round trip commute at least once a week.

Does this sound like enough to allow the dpf to stay healthy? A petrol FR isn't in my price range.

Cheers

I think you will be fine. Our Mk3 2 litre Leon ST is driven 17 mile round trip to work with the occasionally long journey once a month.

That's good, because it's that or a 1.2tsi. If it causes issues I can just use my wife's ibiza for the short journeys.

Consistently did 1.5mile to work and back for 3years in my 2.0 with the odd further drive in weekend

Essentially 5k or less per annum all short journeys, often over before the engine was even warm and never had an issue

Often don't do more than 3 miles each way for a couple of weeks at a time. Never even noticed a regen.

i seem to recall that using OBD11 or VCDS you can force an emergency regen.

Had a 2.0 TDI 150 DSG (yes they don't do these anymore) and did 8k over 2 years, usually city driving (3 miles each way on Tuesdays) and 12 miles each way on a Sunday. Didn't have any light come on once. But it would do an Active regen every so often. This is normal, don't panic when you park up your car and it stinks and the fan is on full blast.
Your 50 mile round trip once a week (guessing you will be going 70mph for more than 15-20 mins at a time), would help. I noticed that it would regen less if I used Shell V Power Nitro Plus diesel. Full tank should get you at least 500 miles, or even more if just cruising @ 65-70mph.

I only did long (25 miles plus) and fast motorway journeys once every 2-3 months. When they are long, they are long! 100 miles or more.

Oh and where possible avoid the supermarket diesels....just give it Esso/Shell/BP regular, and perhaps once every 4th or 5th tankful, some GOOD stuff, Esso Supreme, or Shell Vpower Nitro Plus...helps keep things clean (DPF + fuel filter).
