    K04 K16 clipped/clearanced,7+7, BBT hybrid on a stroker...., largeport head, 80% meth wmi, forge fmic, LCR, B5 induction.... max'd 550cc injectors

    Unplanned boost... N75 crapped out, but timing pull was ok, and I was keeping beady eye on very high egt's...

    Well and truely setting a power/torque figure from a k04 framed turbo beyond my imagination..
    Not safe.. dont try this at home, but intriguiing outcome none the less. Poor v3 mani on it glowed like the sun +++. It would be sooooo much better on my exhaust mani and ported hotside.. Its planned to be done..

    Boost it held on that run... N75 had crapped out so turbo was flat out

    V3 40mm collector is a Horrendous flow restriction, and suicidal egt's .... but damn.. Was never expecting to see this outcome.. K04 FFS.. a one off spec but still a K04..

    Awesome, see I said you could do 400 bhp lol:D
    Would be interesting to see the improvement with a badger5 mani and also the end result in this setup.
    Where do you estimate the power levels on this setup will end up safely as a daily.

    Currently Carl, I have no idea... My perception of what these would do was broken yesterday. I clearly know shag all about hybrids again... lol :blink:

    2bar boost is death to one, so we do need to recalibrate reliable expectations..
    Stroker helped it no end.. Super torque onset and spool...

    I was just shocked when it did what it did..

    CF's did'nt go nuts which surprised me. EGTs I had been fighting all the time on the v3.. It cannot support that flow from stroker on this combination of turbo thru a small 40mm hole..

    Low ign timing as strokers dont seem to tolerate timing like 1800's do


    I want a stroker now in lupo... :lol:

    We will sort out a deal with the owner (jonp) to use my mani and rework his hotside so we can explore whats possible at more "sensible" levels...

    Bill do you think a Forged 1.9 BAM lump with ported head and supporting mods can achieve these numbers with your mani? I want that power!! :whistle:

    do I believe running a k04 hybrid to 2bar boost is going to be reliable? No

    BUT as an experience of seeing what it can do by a "woops" moment, it shows there's more left in it, but it will be eating into reliability region Big time!

    largeport head
    80% meth wmi
    stroker bottom end...

    My mani has supported 372bhp from smallport with 855'c egts... this one yesterday was >1000+ egts and when turned down to 20psi it would climb to 960'c on the relentless... Flow restricted and getting far too hot.

    When/If we get to upgrade johns setup to my mani and I can work on his hotside to open that up, we will be able to see whats possible..


    the experience has "recalibrated" my understanding of hybrids.. This was unexpected to say the least. Certainly was'nt planned.. N75 crapping out caused it but the end results were OMG!

    JohnathonP has a nice motor there and a shrewd move on the stroker investment. I thought john was running a rewelded V2 or did it expire. Up until recently I've been convincing myself that the gap between mine and modern hybrids was too small to be cost effective but since the lupo / this and the B5 mani I can see there is at least 30 bhp left on the table.:blink:
    The temptation is too much to resist, but I have to remove a V2 in situ which is torture.:ban:

    looking fwd to it

    I have another car here (S3) which we're turning into stroker, and we're replacing his relentless with mine and upsizing the bores.. Only a CR hybrid sadly but should also prove interesting.. WMI on it also, we fitted before xmas.

    This one will have traction tho being quattro

    should be fun

    how does it work Bill if you went for a k04 hybrid, do yourself or BBT give you money back for your old k04 unit?

    BBT would have to confirm, but its a new turbo as I understand it these days. He used to supply exchange but most units being sent for exchange were shagged and cracked beyond use so pointless.
