Leaking petrol

Hi I have a 1.8 16v ibiza, and it is leaking petrol. It is heavily pouring out the rear of the car near the off side. :(

Has anyone had this problem?

It always smelt badly of fuel since I bought it. But now petrol spills out when I drive it.

Also my petrol gauge went ballistic a few weeks before this happened.

Thanks guys.

Hi i have been told the fuel gauge problem could be the sender unit playing up.

As for the fuel leak it could be the pipe connecting to the fuel pump.

Ideas would be appreciated.

Similar but not as servere as yours

Mine was leaking/oozing from the pipes from the tank to the engine - cost me around £8o to get 2 new pipes inc fitting - car does not smell at all anymore :funk:

The Leak Is Most Probably The Feul Filter Which Is Under The Car.
Cannot Be The Pump As The Pump Sits Inside The Petrol Tank.

Yes get this seen to asap.
Dont drive it as it could be dangerous.
The pumps are under the back seat.
I do know that there was a small issue with the big nut not sealing correctly when full.
Take the seat out and have a look.
But dont drive it about.

Lift up your back seat, make sure the fuel lines are in place, if they are, make sure the tank's 'LID' is tightly turned.

When I changed my fuel pump, I diddn't tighten it right up and when I filled the tank right to the top, fuel poured out from under the car....Ended up over flowing due to it not being tightend on..

Just a thought.. check for holes anywhere when you fill it up..

Make sure you tie-wrap the end going onto the fuel pump for that extra bit of safty, else get a metal clasp and stick that over it, and tighten it..
