Looks like a bit of work involved would you say it's easier to remove the wheels to get the bulbs in?

It was very easy with the wheels off, the passenger side very harder due to the water tank , it doesn’t give you much space to move, I took off the lower arch cover to access from the bottom. Sorry i didn’t take any pictures

Dunno about the Leon, but at least on the Ibiza you just pull the trim around the foglights to expose the screws that allow pulling trough the front the whole light assembly.
Worth doing the work, only took me about 20 mins that’s including taking the wheels off

Apologies for the dodgy buying link I posted . Spuddy01 got a good price from Aliexpress. My neighbour has just received his from this Ebay link for £9.99.

This video shows how to remove fog lights from the Seat Ateca It is the same for the pre-face lift SE, and possibly for post face lift models.
For pre-face lift FR models you have to remove a small panel in the wheel arch liner.

Unfortunately the man in the video is fitting a high power headlight bulb because that is what is recommended in the Ateca forum. If it was a fog light bulb the top would have a 15mm disc to cap the bulb.
Simple test - stand in front of the car and see where the beam cutoff appears on your legs. It should be no higher than the top of the fog light. If you can't see a cutoff you have a projector bulb.

Upgrade mine now , they look brill I will take a picture in the dark. Getting around the water tank was a problem , I had the remove the arch casing but I was taking off my winter tyres anyway
Are these photos of the NOVsight bulbs mate? Would you say they are slighty “bluer” than the headlight LED ?

I have only seen one specification for true LED fog light bulbs on Ebay.

Colour temperature 6000k/6500k
Power 80W

It depends what your priorities are. They go a great job in early morning mist and fog.

Main priority is to get consistency of colour with LED headlights but i guess anything is an improvement over the current bulbs

I agree. I initially changed mine for cosmetic reasons (who wouldn't) , but having to use them on dark early mornings I really appreciate the difference. You have to get really close to the ground to see the full effect of the LED beam. I suspect the headlights may be about 5600K so there will be a difference.

Fair point. The ebay link is a good one will be ordering from there (u.k. stock aswell). Noticed that the Nighteye ones are also on the bay exact same spec but the locating tabs are metal are opposed to the plastic of Novsight so will be harder to trim for H8 fitment if required

I think you may be looking at a listing for a bare LED bulb. They come ready mounted on a H8 compatible base as shown in the listings, so they are a straight swap. One rather picky thing I like about the Novsights is, being silver, they are invisible when fitted.

This is the equivalent Nighteye bulb.

You can fit LED bulbs in the Seat fog lights but they must be the correct type.

LED fog light bulbs that have LEDs distributed around a cylinder, and also have front facing LEDs are projector bulbs. These are for projector fog lights, in which the front glass is a lens that shapes the beam. If they are fitted to a Leon fog light they will scatter light in all directions.

Leon fog lights have a plain front glass and the beam is shaped by the reflector/halogen bulb combination. The relatively small filament of the bulb is positioned as a single source of light at the focal point of the reflector. This produces a controlled wide beam with a sharp horizontal cutoff. Also, the bulb is capped to prevent uncontrolled light from being projected forward to obliterate the cutoff and dazzle oncoming drivers.

A replacement LED bulb must have an LED, the same size as the bulb filament, attached to each side of a flat blade. The blade must be vertical when installed in the housing and must be capped.

Two reliable brands offering the correct bulbs are Nighteye and Novsight. I fitted Novsight bulbs from Amazon. When I fitted the first one the cutoff aligned correctly with the original bulb in the other fog light. A scan with OBDeleven showed no fault codes. The beam from a fog light should decline from the horizontal by approximately 3 degrees.

The images in the Amazon listing show the structure of the bulb. They are cheaper on Ebay but Amazon is a safer bet because you can return them if you experience any problems. There are very similar bulbs on ebay that are not capped. They are projector bulbs.

Hi,
I know this is an old post, you seem to know your stuff? I’ve read through this and honestly can’t come to a conclusion of which bulbs would be best for my fog lights... I want them to match the leds and obviously put out good light with no errors etc... which would you recommend? Would it be those novsight? Thank you
