Till he wants it cleaned or ask for the keys so you can clean it

I told him Sundays I check oil, coolant and tyre pressures so leave the keys out. Yup, no keys out.

Good shout on the dash cam

Prior to losing the bumper off SL2, I was always on the fence about dashcams. Are they worth the money? Do I need it for short journeys? That was a 1.5 mile journey and cost £1700 of damage in the end. Because I had the dash cam I won the no fault claim and kept my NCB. I fit it even to go the 0.1 miles to the petrol station now.

When’s he going Stage 1 lol

The insurance came out at £2700 for the year (which is pretty good compared to some of the quotes). I was going to start out with lowering springs and new dampers... but then I came to my senses!!!

In other great news... got the black box for the insurance fitted this morning. Now the battery light is permanently on. Coincidence I wonder? Or is this going to be the same battery drain issue as aftermarket headunits!? Surely black boxes must be permanent live anyway to keep the GPS signal?

Surely they must use these boxes in cars with old canbus installed...

Blame them I say

You would have thought so. I'll check it over with a multimeter when I get home (if it's not raining and Supergirl isn't on).

Nah. Cause every time I need to jump start it, I'll call the box engineers back out. We can't go outdoors here when it rains cause it burns!!

Not really an update as such. Something has moved into SL2. Opened the bonnet this morning to check the coolant, etc and found loads of fur on top of the engine / battery cover. Can't see any chewed wires.... yet. It ran fine this morning. Going to give it a clean down with engine and machine cleaner later today hopefully.

In the meantime, anyone got any ideas how to keep stuff out the engine bay? The cars used daily, so I don't think it's trying to live there. Maybe just a cat sheltering. But obviously not ideal to have it in there overnight. Trouble is, there's so much space. I may have inadvertently brought this on myself when I changed the thermostat the other day (wonder if the smell off the antifreeze has attracted something).

Could you connect a spare battery to the chassis so anything that tries to get into the engine bay is given a nice shock lol

Funny you should say that... looks like whatever it was slept on the cover to the battery... I'm thinking, I might just remove the battery cover and see if it's big enough to touch both terminals when it sleeps.

Any Springwatch update today?

So, I gave the engine bay a good scrub, parked the car about 10m away from the hedge I think they are coming through and set my new mouse trap with some peanut butter under the tyre.

Got up this morning. Nothing in the trap. Opened the engine bay, no visitors. Jumped in the car to move it foward 5 or so meters... heard a crack. Got out, I've run over the mouse trap, peanut butter everywhere. Went inside to get some kitchen roll, came back out, stray cat eating the peanut butter.

1st trap RIP.

Luckily, it was a plastic type (not the traditional wooden like ones) and the non snappy end was first under the tyre. But the cat looked at me like I was the biggest loser it had ever seen.
