If it’s just a personal pref people like what they like,I was imagining getting my new car and wanting to get rid.

If it’s not comfortable and enjoyable 100percent you eventually want to get rid.

I have had an FR for few years and love it,it has 18inch wheels so I didn’t think it would be much different

Is it really this bad ?

Does it effect general driving ?

I test drove and never noticed anything

Why do people not complain and Seat do something, this seems extreme.
It depends on roads. I'm from Croatia and generally roads are bad around me. So tyres are producing too much noise.

If I were in Holland where I'm working occasionally, I would never consider to do this.
So it very much depends where are you driving.

I've done alone trunk and under rear seats, there is black final material after this white one, but didn't took picture as I spent almost 8 full hours on trunk.
I didn't put complete layer of butyl all around, just pieces where I thought it was necessary.

Soundproof material on top, around 9mm in average.

Results:
- noise eliminated from trunk and shifted to front
- much better damping of shock absorbers, feels like premium car now

Very happy! Now I will take break for few weeks and then proceed to doors and front interior.

Here is complete Seat guide for interior work:

Been fiddling with sound deadening the last couple of days. Boot and front doors done so far, next few days will be the rear doors and under the rear seat. Been using Silent Coat and a 10mm closed foam on top, and the acoustic foam inside the door panels. Anti squeak tape on contact surfaces. Already made a noticable difference, especially on the stereo sound. Had to change the sound settings as the bass was way too heavy now.

There’s s discussion thread over on VWROC.com where some owners of newer Golf R’s are unhappy with noise levels in their cars. Seems to affect model year 2019 vehicles and one school of thought is a combination of tyre noise and maybe poorer quality or less / thinner sound deadening insulation being installed by VW.

The possible sound insulation changes could be down to cost cutting by VW or a weight reduction measure to get the car through the WLTP type approval process. Probably not much of a weight reduction if sound insulation has been changed, but every little weight saving would’ve helped in achieving VW’s target CO2 and emissions targets.
