In Germany, this is the position regarding fog lights;
Lights
Dipped headlights must be used in poor daytime visibility. Motorcycles must use dipped headlights during the day at all times.
Fog lights are required for driving at night and day with fog and mist, strong rain or snow. With a visual range of less than 50m through fog, rain or snow, fog lights have to be switched on and a speed limit of 50kph applies to all vehicles.
So maybe a variation of this has been programmed into the car with a higher (than 50kph / 31mph) speed trigger for the UK - i.e. if the rear fog lights are switched on and a certain predetermined speed is exceeded, then the car’s ‘brain’ assumes it’s no longer foggy as the predetermined speed is being exceeded, so prompts you to turn off the rear fog lights. Is the car also clever enough to prompt you to switch off the rear fogs in bright sunlight like
@Polly experienced? Maybe it is............perhaps it’s a function of the auto lights sensor when the rear fog lights are on.
