Leon FR - Sunroof or no sunroof?

Hi all,

I've had a brief search through these forums and can't seem to find anything relating to this so thought I'd ask.

I'm ordering a new car in a couple of weeks - I'd been set on the Golf GTD but then realised I can get a fully spec'd 5dr FR (184) for a similar price to a base 3dr GTD. The Leon's slowly grown on me since that realisation [B)]

The only thing I don't know about is the sunroof. I can't find any decent pictures/videos of it (especially from the interior).

If I don't get the sunroof then I can justify getting the Leather trim (although some say they prefer the cloth to the leather - any thoughts on this as well?) but as it stands I can't get sunroof and leather together.

So is the sunroof worth it? Yay or nay?

The leather really makes the interior in my opinion + you get a free winter pack.

The sunroof is cool, it was not available when I ordered without adding a month to the lead time but I would of had it if it didn't.

Over the two though, leather all day long.

I've got the sunroof and am happy with it, I think it adds something to the look of the car from the outside and brightens the cabin inside. That said I've not had chance to use it beyond testing it worked, due to the lovely weather!

If you search, early last year someone posted some nice photos of the view from the interior. All the motor gubbins puts a lump along the interior roof lining between the B pillars though less of an issue on the 5dr compared to the 3dr!

As for leather, I'm not a fan, hot in the summer, freezing in the winter and as soon as you sit in it you get a stretched ripply seat!

So I am opposite I'd have the sunroof over leather :) my leon first car in ages with a sun roof I like it looks good on white and nice to have some fresh air circulating.

I've missed having a sunroof in the past, last car I had one on was my 1998 Ibiza 16V GTI.

Always compromised for earlier delivery or didn't have the option on later cars.

But I wasn't compromising this time, wanted one on my FR, looks great especially on White as it provides contrast with the dark glass. But even if the weather rarely allows you to open it, being able to slide open the sun blind and let the cabin flood with light, just makes me happy. :)

Another vote against leather here too. Don't like the look, slippy slide seats, rubbish when you want to chuck it about a bit. ;) Despite heated seats, still don't like the way they are cold in winter and take your skin off in the summer. Each to their own, that's why we have choice. I like the Alcantara sport seats a lot more than the leather, but acknowledge if you have a lot of little people traffic in and out of the car, its harder to keep it looking nice and clean. Always negatives and positives to everything, got to way it up as a personal choice.

Thanks for the quick responses!

It's a tough choice but I'm definitely leaning towards the sunroof at the moment.

I like the thought of a well-lit interior. I'll try and get to a dealership to see one with a sunroof hopefully.

Cheers

Well, I can say that I have been in your shoes. Went to purchase a Golf GTD, added all the optional extras and realized that it is way over my budget and well over priced.
So, I have ordered a 184BHP Seat Leon FR 5 doors in black with the sunroof ( can't waaaaaaaait :) ) and without leather or even alcantara.
I will tell you why: stock seats look great for the Leon. They have leather on the sides, armrest is in leather, everything is the way it should in the Leon (despite the Golf where you had to add the extra alcantara pack to get leather on the armrest, otherwise you would have cloth).
The alcantara pack of the Leon adds those even nicer seats and some leather on the door covers. Didn't really think it was worth it as I have a Opel Astra Turbo with full leather interior and the seat bottoms look really tired after 6 years of use and abuse.

My opinon: sunroof with stock seats (or alcantara).

:)

 Look nice, but slippy shiny :p

Got to keep up with all the asthmatic 318d's in the work car park ;-)

Main reason for getting it is for its wipe clean ability. 3 messy kids!

The guy who did my paint correction put the pics on detailing world and all of the comments were along the lines of "oh is that a SEAT, interior looks nice" which exactly what I was after.

Excellent! You guys have been very helpful.

Fortunately (for my wallet) I prefer the look of the alcantara sports to the leather so I think this has made up my mind (plus no messy kids to deal with) :funk:

Now if Seat did something to improve their awful online configurator to make these choices easier!

Yep as I said above, Leather great for keeping clean and looking nice, if you have little people :D

I'm a happily single, rich (ok not that rich), loner with a cleaning obsession, so Alcantara is right up my street :cartman:

I love the sunroof although like others, not had a real chance to use it yet.
I have the techny cloth seats and I really like them too.
I would have loved leather/alacantara seats as I had them in my last car but the alacantara can wear quite quickly and good luck cleaning them if you spill stuff or get food on it.
It's like suede so does not like being cleaned with liquids.

I think you can get specialist cleaners but they are not cheap.

I told em Hold em
Also have the sunroof on a Red FR. Love the light in the cabin and think the black sunroof really improves the look of the car. On the seats again I have the stock seats and think if you don't have kids, they are the best option. Forget Alcantara and spend that money elsewhere. I went for the Titanium pack. Those wheels combined with the sunroof on a red Leon look spot on

Guuuyys, you are killing me. I love the pics, love the Titanium pack rims, and my God I love the sunroof.
I have at least one more month to go before I will take delivery of my 2.0 TDI Leon with standard seats and sunroof. Can't wait to take my first ride ever in a car with a sunroof which accidentally will be my new car, to enjoy the feeling......
Aaawww, the pain of the waiting period. :) Car should go into production next week. Fingers crossed. :D

I went for Sunroof and Leather.

If I hadn't gone for the leather I would have stuck with the standard stock seats which look nice. Somone put me off Alcantara due to issues with cleaning the moment you drip/drop Big Mac sauce or gurkin on it.

Anyone who's had a pair of suede shoes and worn them to the pub or in the rain will understand - ruined.
