Leon FR - Towbar ?

Anyone got a towbar fitted to a Leon FR ??

Not even sure if you can fit a towbar ?

I have a towbar fitted to my FR tdi. It's a Brink detachable. You can hardly notice that it has a towbar fitted when it is detached and the cover is on.

It cost round about £300. Supplied, fitted, wired up and including the cover. Will try and get some pics up asap.

Here are my pics of the Brink towbar. The middle picture is under the Millau Bridge. The last one is a picture sent to me by Brink. I do not have a rear view of my car with the towbar in. Hope this helps.

Sweetfr, can you tell me where you got towbar from please?

Also, is there much needed to make the car good again if you were to remove the towbar? I've got a company car so when it's time to go back it'll need to be removed!

Hi Rob

I knew exactly what towbar I wanted and the seat dealer contacted a towbar specialist to fit the towbar so all was ready when I picked up the new car. I would suggest you try www.brinktowbars.com and click on dealers section and go from there to find one in your area. If you remove the towbar at a later date you could leave the bumper with the cover or replace the black section of the bumper which I do not think costs a lot.

answers to your questions;

1) The Seat dealer organised the towbar to be fitted by a local towbar specialist. It was fitted in the dealers showroom.

2) The towbar is a Brinkmatic Advance towbar - number 446700.

3) The bumper cover is supplied with the towbar.

There is no movement in the locking mechanism. This is a swan neck type towbar and I am not sure how you would fit a bike rack to it.

That’s great mate, thanks for the prompt response.

The bike rack I have actually mounts onto the tow ball itself, its like a self centring clamp. Very good design really.

Now I have a part number and know it can be fitted I would consider having a go myself, probably approach a fitting place for a price first. Might even give another dealer a try asking for that particular tow bar, I might get a more reasonable price.

I've just had a towbar fitted to a facelift FR Tdi. Give me a shout if it is the facelift you have as it was not straightforward. Being technically a new car the towbar manufacturers have not approved the towbars yet so legally they can not be fitted.

I had mine fitted at Mobile Solutions in Derby. It was a Westfalia detachable towbar (The Brink towbar is not approved for the 2009 models). £350 fitted but I also had to buy a bumber cover from Seat.

Thank you very much for the info. Mine is a 57 plate, I guess the facelift model is slightly different model out this year. One of the guys who has had one fitted is from Durham, which is about 10 miles from me so hopefully he'll let me know where he had his done. Once again many thanks. Hi Rob100,

Mine is a 07 plate so you should be looking for the same set up as me I would have said.

I got mine fitted at a place in Hull, made a good job, i seem to remember they were reasonably priced etc. This may be some distance for you to travel though, let me know if you want some more details.

If so the fitting of my towbar was organised by the dealer, SG Petch, and fitted by Lyndon Security Systems. I am sure if you ring SG Petch they will provide you with the telephone number. Also Hedleys Towbars in Durham should be able to fit it. They fitted the towbar to my Mk 1 Leon Cupra tdi.

Hi m8, you will need to have the brink bike rack (not tow bar fitted). I can highly recommend HEDLEYS TOWBARS in Durham, they are very professional and much cheaper than anyone else

Hi Justa, just been reading the post and i have a full tow bar for the leon if you are interested it came on the car when i got the car but i have took it off, its the full thing which is connected to the long metal that goes behind the bumper.
