loud tapping noise.

hello there. i have a rather loud tapping noise from the left hand side of my engine bay. (cambelt side) it sounds like it is coming from one of the pulley on the pulley banks. this being alternator; powered steering pump. has any one else had this problem or not? any kind of ideas? its a loud ticking noise. i think it could be bottom end or a bearing somwere... please please please help...

Does it get louder when you rev? if so it could be either of the pumps as my old cordoba had a tapping noise that was the water pump.

yes it gets louder at high revs yes...

Ok, mine was the water pump. does the engine seem to have lost power or heat up quicker than normal? does the steering feel different? does the car have aircon?

hi just to let you guys know. i changed the engine to cut all strings. i prdict it was the big ends knocking. and it was the 16v abf engine mate. but it idle'ing and 1500rpm so a dont know whats up with that at the moment
