Lowered the Altea (With pics)

Excelent,he's going to have a big list once my finances get back to around £0 lol :D
Whats the rough cost of this lot? Cheers.Paul

it can be expensive. and discs weigh quit a bit so try buying them local along with pads. you could be lucky on fleebay for a set of 312mm carriers, however give David a shout here:

he should do you a good deal on new carriers though please sit down when he tells you the RRP of them:lol:

Hopefully next weekend or there abouts I should have mine lowered. ALso looking for a set of 18" or 19" Alloys to go on the beat, but just undecided as yet as to what to put on.

Thanks Toxic! some great advice and links there! waiting for my bank balance to recover before even asking lol! I'm booked in for a Revo remap in 2 weeks too so theres another £400 gone
19's would look stunning, but rather you when it comes to tyre renewal prices :scary:
You'll have to get some pics up when its done :D

yeah 19" do look nice, but it is the price for tyres and more likely wheel bearings:) I'll put up some photochopped images of my Altea, lowered and different wheels on them if I can get suitable wheel images for you to see. I'll most likely go for 18" however.

Theres a lot of talk of Wheel bearing problems over on SXOC (200 club) where i normally live  But this seems to be unproven ,if its mixed with big spacers ,say 40-50mm per axle then maybe so,but i don't think bigger wheels will be a problem! just those tyre prices

right.. I really want some new springs... but everywhere i have called seem to want in the region of £200 for fitting!!!

They also go on about it needing 4 wheel alignment afterwards...

Just don't know if its something i could do myself... despite that fact i don't seem to have half the tools needed...

so far i have been quoted 70-80 for fitting, though will shop about some first of all. have been given a contact of an ex Seat foreman that works from his house, now who is fairly close to me. I may use him though will get a price first.

That is a lot,but if it included the alignment its not too bad!
i suppose if you don't have access to any specialist tools, then you are probably looking at £50 worth of tools to do the job,but then once you have them you have them! :)

What size you are you using for spacers?

At the moment i've got a set of Forge 16mm's going on the rear, and just a set of 5's on the front, but in time i want a set of 20mm's to go on the rear and move the 16's up front! run out of money for the next 2 months though  :)

any pics of the spacers/wheels now fitted with space left to fill the arches? I have my eyes set on either the Seat Sport BTCC 7 spoke ones (Polished silver or Polished Anthracite)

or something else, the BTCC ones are 7.5x18 ET51 so these would need spacers. if I got for another type of alloy say 8x18 et45 then Spacers would not be needed or only on the back to fill the arches.

Nice wheels there! like both sets!
Just tried to take pics now,but it doesn't really show the difference! I am a bit dissapointed how much gap there still is with a 15mm spacer rear, but hopefully alignmet will bring the top out another few mm on Thursday!
Here are the pics with a 15mm rear and a 5mm front (But the front tyre is a 235/40/17) so it looks further out in the arch! the wheel is still in a fair bit! :)

I'll try and get some better shots Friday after its aligned!

Its hard to tell from the pics, but theres about 1cm from middle of tyre to the edge of the arch 20mm from the top of the wheel!Front and rear but like i say the front tyres have a bit more balloon as they are the wrong size! :)

my guess is the type of wheel fitted, one is a 7x17 but ET46 (taken from ETKA) or possibly the FR may have slightly wider or different track lengths due to different parts fitted on the transmission perhaps.

Ah yeah, didn't think of the FR :)
