Nah, what with work, house purchase & holiday - it's just kinda as is. Doesn't need much (other than a service & proper brake pads)

once I've moved I'll do some remedial stuff like new bushes etc to freshen it up - but I love it still

No updated really.... Just bought a service kit & changed the plugs, air filter & will do the oil this weekend or next.

Changing the plugs has really improved a slightly lumpy idle (old ones looked buggered)

Now it has a lot more powa - more than when I bought it I'm convinced. (which suggests a non standard engine)

mpg now sits reliably at >35mpg with a 'fast' commute to work & back. Taking it easy on a tank takes me past 40mpg.

Might whip the cage out, I'm undecided if it's promoting the 'wrong' image.

MOT is looming, so I think I'll change the exhaust for that.

;)Good little motors had a Y reg 172 sport it had had a bit of a life before we had it, had to get rid of it as baby on way(After i tidied it up). Only thing found it to be noisy and did corner well on budget tyres:lol: but very good fun on back road thrashes:whistle:

Maybe at the weekend, I gave it a good wash, but it needs some real TLC to make it 'pretty' (tar all down the sides etc)

Comes up shiney, just need some better weather otherwise the grey car just sits in grey surroundings :)

You still have this mate, i remeber when i had my 182, and would definatly go back to one, the car is so easy to drive at speed and is fun, the F4R engine in them are solid and a wel made piece of engineering, stripped out too makes it better :) Does it shake its arse under hard braking?

Yup, still got it & loving it.

Brakes solid & square, but that might be because of the lack of ABS?

MOT next month, so fingers crossed it'll get through OK - the exhaust has a slight leak, and I think the rear brakes need some TLC

Back from the dead
An amazing car to drive, and whilst there are some interesting tweaks in Marks car, it doesn't make it unpleasant or untoward as a daily hack. The unusually rough idle was perfectly liveable with given the power that seemed to be on tap.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find more fun for the money given what you can get a 172 for these days.

Well my intuition was bob on... It failed it's MOT on the exhaust being utterly shagged & the rear brakes being utterly shagged

Observations were that one shock was leaking a bit of oil, so I'll get an OE replacement one from Renault & replace that... the other observation was the lack of back seats :)

Anyway - for the first time in nine years I've had to give a car to someone to do the work on it.. I just don't have the time to do anything at the moment because I'm working away :(

Anyway, 3.5hrs labour including an oil change, rear discs & pads & fitting an exhaust wasn't too bad.

The exhaust was a pattern replacement sourced by the garage for buttons (like £70) for a centre section & back box. Sounds awesome & now is a lot faster (now the baffles aren't collapsed on themselves)

Given that it dyno'd at JKM at 170bhp with a dead exhaust, I'm swaying a lot to being sure that when the cambelt failed the owner chucked some cams in there...

Anyway, including 12 months ticket.. £480 (and I supplied my own oil & filter)
