Will be interesting to see how different it feels on the track now with these pieces sorted out.
Better rear brakes and more power should make it even more fun.

What about this Leon that has been rumoured you have, must be a secret;)

Yeah, as soon as I stop working in Scotland I hope to get some trackdays done in it - just a shame that I live quite near two, but neither are interesting!

The imaginary leon exists :) I honestly have no pictures of it (still)

It ran 170bhp with a dead exhaust, collapsing on itself (now replaced) - 172's always post well below book figures
It has about 10lbft more than std. It comes on very strong at 4500rpm & feels a lot quicker than other 172's I've driven

Also the entire top end got rebuilt when the cam belt failed, and went off for 'specialist' work & rebuild (so the invoice says) - which is when I suspect it might have been done if the cams got bent

Normally engine efficency is at its max arround 4700 - 5k on the F4R which alot call the 5k kick. It may have other mods like matched inlets, ported and polished etc. There 172PS standard which is equal to 169bhp, so it may just be head work thats been done and matched inlets etc, i think you would know if it was on cams. Alot of castings on inlet manifold have found to be very rough and smaller, alot have opend them up to the size of the gasket and depeding how bad the old one was could add upto arround 5bhp. Also ktec claim cams can add arround 15bhp which would mean it would run high 70s early 80s. Out of intrest how much was the rebuild? Personally i wouldent say its cammed with them figures.

Inlets aren't matched (had them off already)

Idles a little rough as well.

I'll get it on JKM's dyno again at their next day I think - and then ask them to overlay it

Top end rebuild cost the owner at the time £1400ish,

These engines natrually idle a bit lumpy, at traffic lights can tend to find it sounds like there cammed, just the nature of the engine, from cold there shocking lol even just setting off, you not thought of geting inlets matched? Could just possibly have had a remap? As you wont see big gains on N/A.

Yeah, thought about matching the inlets, but this car is really my 'get to work' car, so I can't have it being too upset or in bits.

I'll probably pick up an RSTuner unit & map it myself, I got quite into it when I was programming a megasquirt unit before, so I will take some pleasure/interest in that.

But you're right, gains are minimal, and I won't be chasing more power (unless it's easy) - it's nippy enough for what I need

Love the Clio
We've had a Mk1 172 (Blue), MK2 172 (red) and a 182 (Orange).

We still have a 172 cup sat on the driveway, great fun track car.

Do you use Rentech in Portsmouth?

Nope, most things I do myself, I just ran out of time & used a family backstreet place nearer where I live for the MOT stuff.

That said, I'll change the cambelt later in the year, and if I'm still working where I am (Glasgow) I'll get Rentech to do it.

Well after a decent wash yesterday I thought I'd head out to the Goodwood Breakfast Club in the Clio today... So I went the back way & had a blast. Mulled around at Goodwood over a coffee & then headed home the really really long way & took some pics on the way.

The car is now filthy

New OE dampers, stubby aerial & a 3/4 size front plate I think

I've been looking at Colf Air Feeds, or some kind of airbox/filter & where to put it... And I think some Clio Cup racer brake cooling ducts as they get kinda warm on a spirited drive.

So I've seen :)

The Clio is up in Glasgow with me until the MOT runs out in October I think... that's my current plan anyway.

I love the cage :) so I'm loathed to sell it

It did Oulton Park recently, it was a slippy day & I wasted the front brake pads & drove home from Cheshire to Glasgow on the backing material (safety first kids)

I very nearly got one of these instead of the cupra, great handling cars. You have the fastest
version too :) and best suspension setup apparantly. Had it on 3 wheels much?

It's nearly always planted - not sure it's cocked a wheel much - certainly not bimbling around up here

Glad its still going strong, i always thought it had a bit more poke than any other Clios around. Also, don't sell the cage, its very very very very rare now!

I very nearly contacted you a while ago as i thought about seeing if you would part with it as i was in the market for another car!

Since the Clio i've had a 230bhp Mini Cooper S and a Custom Coded Audi S3 and i still maintain that out of the box the Clio Cup ticks so many more boxes for fun, reliabilty and performance etc. Nothing i've had goes that fast on so little fuel!
