A very long overdue update!

Had a run in with a rather high kerb, the angle it hit meant my wheel took all the force don't think my tyre even touched the kerb :(

Luckily I have a few spares of the same wheel so for christmas I thought a colour change was due:

Didn't do much in the early part of this year aside from replacing my bootlid, 2 of the heating bars had broken and there was a bit of rust that had grew from removing stickers for le mans years ago:

IMAG2953.jpg

Biggest pain was threading my old wires through the new bootlid as they'd just chopped off the wires at the hinge:

Returned to CC Tuning to see how much difference the cooler had made and tweak my map if needed:

183bhp and 319lbft, not bad for 145k old standard turbo and clutch, bonus was Chris had refined the map he does since I had mine mapped a few years ago so it drives even better now:

Decided to get some "normal" tyres 235/40 instead of the stretched 195/40s, I knew these weren't going to fit but had a plan up my sleeve:

The plan:

All ready for a busy "weekend":

No going back from here!
IMAG3059.jpg

Had to resort to an angle grinder quite soon after this as the dremel blades lasted about 150mm each lol
IMAG3061.jpg

Rear ready to have skins welded, no pictures of the welding as it wasn't pretty haha:
IMAG3062.jpg

...and reason why I wasn't too fussed about hacking up my car, too many years of wheels rubbing a bit and it was just starting to show through from the outside. All 4 arches were similar:

Mock up of further bits because we all know that is(not) the best way to get one job finsihed!

I wasn't overly pleased with the look of the arches as they had puckered a bit when I trimmed them down.

I ordered some different ones from Russia and set about fixing my binding front brake and lack of handbrake on one of the rear calipers.

Front brake issue was obvious when taken apart, fitted a new piston and seal kit to both front calipers:
IMAG3167.jpg

I decided to upgrade the rear brakes to the 256mm vented type off LCR, S3, VRS Octavias and fast TTs. Was lead to believe I just needed some 6mm spacers to account for the difference in offset between the 4wd and 2wd carriers however it soon became apparent that the 2wd ones are needed as they sit the caliper further from the centre of the wheel. With the 4wd ones the carrier fouls the disk.
Comparison:

Fitted with new discs and pads, still need to decide on what colour to paint them:

Fill out the wheel a little better:

Borrowed my mum's car for a bit while I was waiting for the bits to fix my brakes:

Took a trip to wales:

Fixed her headlights with some wet and dry and a quick polish:

New flares arrived which meant more holes to be drilled and rivnutted haha, used these cleco pins to help line everything up:

Sucess! Much happier with these ones although it is missing a little something...

Finally fitted these Polo skirts after buying them from ebay.de about 2 years ago:
IMAG3402e.jpg

I designed brackets for the splitter, had them laser cut, then folded and welded them together myself:

Test fit:

And with crashbar in place:
IMAG0079_%282%29.jpg

With the splitter mounted:
IMAG0081_%282%29.jpg

All together with some custom support brackets that attach onto the bottom of the crash bar (needs a clean here)

Was dark by the time I had finished:

Matt, you've done an incredible job on that car. Congratulations.

Can I ask you a question? I'm searching a pair of flares for front wheels. I use the ibiza for drag races, and I need to mount a flare that cover my drag wheels. Do you have the store link of the second set of flares? Thank you!!

Regards

Thank you very much Matt!!
I will order a pair of them for the front fenders. With my street wheels its fine (205/40r17), but the slicks that I use have 620mm of diameter, and rubs too much on the fender.

Regards!

I was just looking for an old image in this thread and thought I'd add that I still have this:
