Miles to Next Service Indicator

Hi Folks.

My 05 Toledo 1.9Tdi was run beyond the theoretical 10000 mile limit for it's service, as indicated by the service reminder display (srd). The srd then entered negative territory......... Following the service checked the srd only to find mileage to next service considerably less than 10000 but consistent with over-run of mileage. Does this tell me that somewhere within the vehicle management system(s) total distance covered is actually stored and referenced by the srd? Can anyone throw any light on this please?

Thanks,

LooTed

Hi googies, the service was at abt 8 mths following the previous (15k/yr typically) service but the service due indicator began showing some 1750 miles short of the 10000 mile interval. I actually ran the vehicle to within 50miles of the 10000 interval before the service was undertaken. After all the service record would show service at the correct time wouldn't it?

Yeah, if I recall it does come on early as a warning to give time to get a service organised. I wouldn't worry about it. Some do run over it by a bit. Mine has went over a small amount and never been a word said. Not always practical to get it serviced when it displays it.

Thanks for your response. Yes, If I recall things correctly the spanner and 'miles to next service' appear at 1000 miles prior to the service due. In an environment where 10k is the service interval then I would not expect to see this occur at say 2k miles to next svce. If it does there is some inconsistency somewhere, possibly in contradiction to the ISO and KWP protocols that govern the whole of the engine mgt system. (I cannot believe that SEAT UK would deliberately allow this to be the case.) I have to say that I am bugged by this discrepancy and want to establish facts, and I mean facts, before any accusations, if there need be accusations, are considered.

i wouldnt worry about it, the only case where it might be a problem is if u run over intervall by few thousand miles! The protocols and standards are tightly controlled and especially automotive industry therefore i would trust that end of things.

Hi guy's

My 06 plate tolly shows the spanner with 1300 miles to go to next service..

the service intervals are set to 15000 km which is around 9500 miles this explains why my 5th service is t 46,000 miles (next week!)

Cheers

All depends on the dealer setting it right at last service and not having to go back to reset it etc. mine came on 1400mile ago, still got 500 to go to service mileage. Although getting a quote from dealers is quite hard! e-mailed them loads of times and no answer except from Agnews Belfast.

Know what you mean googies

£200 for a while you wait filter & oil change is a bit steep!!

Made sure I topped up my washer fluid before I put mine in at it's last service... Picked it up to find a 500ml bottle of washer fluid left in the paasenger foot well which they had managed to get a cap full (if that) into the washers!!!

that added another £2.99 to the bill!!!

Just checked out your photos, what is the picture of the engine (air intake??) showing?? do you have a t-box plugged in??

Cheers

Quoted £250 for a 40K service, It is steep. The add ons i specifically say im not payin for, they still try to put them on the bill though. Which picture is that? The one with a plug connector on it is the MAF housing and connector, the other pipes are the top intercooler to egr housing pipe with oil and crud in them.

Post up a picture in the readers rides section, thread in there for showing 2 pictures of your car. want to see the GTI wheels on the Toledo!?

Hi ddc,

I am surprised that the service interval is 15000kM (9320 miles) - my vehicle uses 10000miles. If you ask SEAT UK Customer Services I'm sure they will confirm 10k service intervals. Who advised you of the 15000kM figure? Try running the vehicle to the next round 10000miles. In your case I would suggest 50k, then look at mileage to next service - you may be surprised. So, your spanner came on at 46k less 1300 = 44.7k - that's a long, long way short of 50k miles - like 5300. Did you purchase the vehicle 'new' showing zero or nominal mileage? How long did the dealership have the vehicle prior to your purchase? That's all for now. Regards,
