Just got back to my car, I always fold the mirrors in.

So I blindly spun the mirror control 180 and a "whhiiirrrrr BANG BANG BANG".....

Looks like I DIDNT fold them in, but someone did manualy from the outside, so when I thought i was putting them back out, I was actually pulling them back in!

It sounded AWFUL.

They folded out OK, and are folding in and out fine .....

Im hoping I haven't done any damage :(

Nope. That's the position reset you were hearing. They are supposed to do that after they've been knocked.

It explains that in your owners manual.

I had the same thing.

I always fold mine in, but I gave a lift to a rather, shall we say, "dizzy" colleage of mine once.

I'd already got in the car and she said "Oh, you've left your mirrors in".

Before I could get my key in the ignition to open the passenger window and shout "NOOOOOOO!!!!" or to move the mirrors myself, she'd straightened the one on her side.

It made a HELL of a bang when I unfolded the one on my side.

She was very apologetic, but no harm done.

Never thought about that.
Might not bother folding them in if it's going to be REALLY cold the next morning.

Hope there was no damage done :D

The coloured cover just clips on, so you should be able to clip it back.

If the lower black bit is loose then you have to replace the whole unit (gulp)
