Misc minor issues with my Leon

Ok so i'm nearly 2 months into owning my first Leon and it's mainly good so far!

Got my aftermarket head unit installed thanks to advice from here (i'll post a pic when i get round to it!) but there's a couple of little niggles that I'm after some advice on.

First - It went into limp home mode a month ago so i took it back to the dealer (small local-ish dealer with 3 month warranty) and they had the turbo cleaned out and said some of the veins were stiff. Then it happened yesterday again, just turned it of and on again and it's fine... I've heard this can be an issue with these engines but the guy I got it from is by no means a VAG specialist.

(I should say I've got a 2.0 tdi140 engine, manual - 55 plate)

I've also been stalling it a bit in the cold in the mornings in 1st gear but i'm assuming that's unrelated and I'm just not used to driving a diesel when half awake.

Secondly - Folding mirrors, the passenger side folds ok, drivers side gets stuck and when you flip them back out again it wobbles constantly until you manually click it into place. I wanna get this fixed if it's cheap but if not i'll live with it.

Sorry for the essay :D

Cheers... yeah when he checked the ECU he said it was overboost... seems to be caused by slow driving for a while followed by sticking your foot down.

Will have a go on the WD40... sounds like my kinda fix!!

WD40 should fix the mirror, I've read posts about this before.

The overboost is either a faulty valve, faulty vac actuator or as you said, dirty and sticky VNT veins. I've read about people squirting mr muscle oven cleaner onto the VNT mechanism to un-stick it. Do a search for mr muscle for the thread.

Failing that remove the turbo, scrub the mechanism clean and re-fit it.

I thought it was near impossible to stall diesels ;)

The first leon i drove was a 1.9TDi. I took it for a test drive and put my foot slowly on what i thought was the accellerator while pulling the clutch up at a normal rate. After I'd got it into 1st i put my foot down to realise my foot was actually on the plastic lip at the side and not the pedal... I was too used to my clio being further over!

Right i'll get some WD40 at the weekend... got an old tin somewhere but always losing the damn straw.

Had the turbo removed the other week and cleaned out with turbo cleaner when it went back to the dealer...

I can confirm it is definitely possible to stall a diesel! Used to stall my mrs' insignia all the time! :D

iT'S QUITE EASY TO STALL A MODERN CR DIESEL, THEY RUN THEM REALLY LEAN AND RETARDED ON IDOL TO MAKE THEM QUIET THESE DAYS. OLD DIESELS WITH MECHANICAL INJECTION WOULD CRAWL UP THE SIDE OF A HOUSE IN 2ND ON TICKOVER.

Well went to the garage and they fiddled with it for a bit, cleaned some kind of sensor/valve and then said "you'll have to see ow you gerron wi' it"

Well it's working now... but then it was working before so fingers crossed it's either fixed or goes wrong in the next month before the warranty runs out.
