Greetings from the MK3 side!

IIRC the VW Polo (2002 1.2 12v model) is pretty much the same as the mk4 ibiza? (i could be wrong).

Anyway my Mrs has one of the above which we drive to work in. This morning the car has lost about 20% power and has the engine management light flashing i think (it looks like an engine symbol in yellow) and is causing the car to sound like a camper van air cooled engined and drive like a bag of sht!

I was wondering if anyone has had an issue like this on their 1.2 ibiza or if they have one of the above cars and can shed some light?

Car struggles to pull away at low revs. Theres no smoke or anything but it runs poor.

Sorry for not searching but am at work so cant really sit on't internet for long.

Any help appreciated

Nath.

If you're lucky it's a failed coil pack making you only run on 2 of the 3 cylinders. These are covered by 5 years by Seat as they know they are a common fault.

If you're unlucky you could have the dreaded timing chain jumped problem.

eww, sorry to hear that.

Yeah as above, if its coilpack (mostly is as it seems a number of ourselves in this forum suffer with this) its cheaper to fix and reletivly easy to fit. Does it infrequently loose power, like as though it missed a sequence?

It idles a lot lower now and struggles when moving off in 1st gear. Sounds like an old beetle or camper van in 1st and second gear but seems to be ok once over 3k revs. Got the engine light flashing all the time.

But to answer your question it constantly struggles on idle and pulling away.

I will check the coil packs tonight and see if its one of them playing up. We have only had the car 3 months and it had just recently been through a service when we bought it.

Looks like I will have to use the cupra for work for time being until I can fix

REVIVE.

If it's a coilpack, where are they and can I fix it myself, or is it a dealer job?
