Ok, I keep an eye on the mk5 section because since the first time I saw the mk5 Cupra I wanted one. I have read a lot of horror stories about the 1.4 tsi engine and tbh I was really disapointed at the stuff I read.

My question is are the new ones any different? I heard a lot of issues were sorted with he revised engines. I spoke to a friend that is an Audi tech, I asked if the same engine a1 had problems and he said they were spot on.

Who has a 60 plate + Cupra /boc? Does your engine eat itself, gearbox fail/rattle, drink oil like its fuel and misfire and run like a 3 cylinder corsa?

I'm looking to decide yes or no If I want the mk5 during 2013

Any help would be great.

I have a 11 plate fr (same engine/garbox, just different map 150bhp not 180bhp) and not had a problem at.
I was put of with reading the problems but risked it with the fr and totally dont regret it.

I have a Fabia vRS, and whilst the car itself is an absolute gem, especially with the power and handling mods ive done, i still wouldnt recommend any one to buy a 1.4TSI. Its a flawed engine.

If the Cupra/vRS had a different engine that was reliable then id recommend one in an instant

I expected and wanted a post from you. I love the looks of the car but the engine really puts me off,I wish it was a 1.8t with dsg :p .

Think we should have some mileages, eg 11plate 15k all good, 10 plate 23k new engine wouldnt buy another.

Had a cupra. And after 10 months of owning it the dealer has it for 2 1/2 months of that. Verious problems, new engine, still having problems after this. It was never ending.

Yes it was a good car to drive. But so glad I walked away when I did. It appears the engine is very flawed.

10 plate new engine at 15k, unresolved issues with power deliver, ABS system. EPC problems. Juddering / noisy gearbox, gone at 16k.

The newer ones with the different engine code should be fine. The fueling problems are sorted, software problems are sorted and the piston/oil consumption problems should in theory be sorted. This is down to various hardware changes. Only time will tell how theses engines perform.

The engine is floored by design but the new upgrades eliminate most floors bar the positioning of injectors and spark plugs.I think it will be reliable from now on under lower states of tune. I think if you keep it standard you will be ok. It's a headache to tune.

And seat customer services is disgusting

i've got a 61 plate bocanegra on 16k miles and its top notch! only had it a few weeks but i've been checking the oil regularly after caning it and it doesn't seem to be using any. experienced no problems, rattles etc, and the box is very smooth.

i'd recommend one! best move i ever made from a 1.8t to 1.4tsi!

mind you i have read that 11 plates on are ok, all of the older ones should be avoided, but i don't know what to believe

Yes the newer engines 'should' be ok. But with a lot of cars coming up to the end of the warrenty period now, I wouldn't want to stick around and find out if the new engine will be ok once the warrenty period has passed.

I even purchased the extended warrenty for mine, as was not going to risk having the engine go and have to face a bill for 2k to replace it. Luckily it went at 15k. ( I bought the car at 10k ).

It appears that things are a bit hit and miss as to getting a car with no problems or ones that just have constant issues.

If you were going to buy one, try and buy one with as much warrenty as you can, or take out Seats extended warrenty.

In my opinion I wouldn't waste you're money on one.

Just scroll through all of threads about engine issues and how the local dealers have delt with the problems, see if you can find out how helpful you're local dealer is when it comes to putting things right. I was very fortunate that my dealer was very helpful and sorted everything out for me pretty well, they also handled getting rid of the car very well also.

Really need to hear from more new/revised engined cupras

well like i've said mines is a late 2011, there's no receipts for any work carried out by seat (car is still under warranty) and i've been checking the oil regularly because i'm petrified by the oil consumption problems lol, but it hasn't been using any!

one of my friends has a 1.4tsi A1 and has been running a remap (for the last 6000 miles) without any problems

Might be different for SEAT, but usually you don't get given receipts for warranty work...
