MKV Golf GTi to Cupra TDI

A while back i had a Mk4 Ibiza PD100 then switched to a Mk5 Golf GTi which I'm still driving now but I'm tempted to get the Mk4 Cupra Tdi as i'll be doing a fair bit of travelling around now and i need something with better MPG. Has anyone went from a GTi for a Cupra D? Whats the realistic MPG i'll be getting on the cupra? At the minute on the golf I'm getting around 34mpg on a motorway run and thats taking it easy, round town it'll be around 25. Whats sort of MPG can i expect if i have a bit of fun in the cupra?

Wow! That's poor mpg.
Our Astra CDTi SRi 150 does an easy 46 on a run and some about town driving.

Are you a bit heavy with the right foot? Or is there a possible fault on the car?

Can't answer your question about the Cupra, I'm looking for one myself.

Early 50s on motorway for me, remapped for power, Cupra.
As with everything it depends how fast you drive. I can get 80 mpg ++ out of the wife's Econetic Fiesta, but that's at 50 mph.

Best I have got in my Cupra TDi is 68.7 driving 23 miles, 18 on the A50 following a lorry in 6th at 55mph then 5 miles crawling through towns in the low gears. 70MPG is more than possible.

The best you can get with normal driving on a cupra tdi is 45mpg, if you drive at 60 to 65 then it's going to be more like 50mpg. If you want an Eco diesel go for the 130tdi the 160 is a more of a performance diesel.

Hi pal, no cruise control but I will be getting it, can get 40mpg when spanking it, bear in mind you have a golf gti more thirsty that a diesel. My cupra tdi is diesel power!

Are you for real, I often get 60mpg plus in my Cupra tdi, am I the only one pushing 70mpg? This is using cruise control I will add.

There are loads of people on here who have quoted that they don't get anywhere near 60mpg with a cupra tdi including myself, even when driven on long journeys incredibly gently, no more than 70mpg will be lucky to hit 50mpg......with the larger turbo on the 160 this just isn't possible coupled with gear ratios.
Whatever you have been smoking I would come off it:) If you are doing 70mph plus on a motorway and getting 60mpg I'll pay for your drugs!
