Modifications without remap

Hi all, thinking about starting to lightly modify the engine of my 05 LCR, its already got a milltek catback exhaust and a forge dv, so was thinking of buying the usual forge tip etc.

The thing is I wont be getting a remap for a while yet due to insurance costs. Was just wondering if modifying the engine without a remap would do the complete opposite to what its meant to and for the ECU to restrict the power rather than increase it. Is it really worth while modifying now or should I wait til I'm closer to the remap stage?

Cheers Jamie

A good quality air filter should be high on the list mate. Something like a jetex. p-flo, jabbasport to name but a few

Think it may already have a K&N panel filter, keep forgetting to check for sure!! If there isn't then will definitely be upgrading. Now the debate between panel filter and cone filter begins, which is your preferred option mate?

Preferably you want to get all your engine mods done before a remap so it can be implimented based on the mods. A front pipe is supposed to be a good way forward, front mounted intercooler (fmic) also.

FMIC is usually for a Stage 2 isnt it? Probably a pointless idea going to stage 2 considering where I live :D So would be a stage 1 (for now ;) ) just wanted to get the best out of it really. Dont want a restricted engine during the waiting time thats all.

Not telling the insurance...hmmm :D I'm paying enough as it is for the insurance dont want to have to pay out to repair the car in the event of an accident if they found I had a remap without telling them!

I was in the same mind as you.
I did want to get a remap but wanted to sort out the handling first.
I bought a Sprint booster which made the car feel alive without a map.
It was marginally quicker but not by much but felt so much quicker

This was removed last month due to finally getting mapped after 7 years

who's going to check whether it was remapped or not even if you have an accident? and why would he check it? makes no sense to me....
alright, if you change wheels and not telling thats going to be pricey when an accident happens, but it is VISUAL! you can not see a remap though

The handling is getting there as well, got coilovers and front upper strut brace, ARBs and rear strut brace next I think. What exactly does a Sprint booster do?! Only heard very little about it.

It sharpens up the throttle response.
It feels nuts for a start, almost like a remap.
Basically it amplifys the throttle input signal, say you press the pedal 10% it opens say 50% 30% opens 100%.

Dont they complete strip the car for any defects if it's been in a bad accident?!

I have never ever seen or heard of an insurance assessor reading the code out from an ECU in the event of an accident........although for the little extra it costs I declared mine.

Bald tyres, visual mods then yes I've seen 50k cars have their insurance void but never because of a remap.

in regards to insurance

i was in the same position a few months ago with i first got my mapping...

should i declare, shouldnt i, will they check, wont they?

The way i see it, insurance companies are right ******s and will do ANYTHING to get out of a payout - If people like us aware of the AMOUNT of high performance cars out there, dont u think the insurance companies are? its not hard for them to do a simple check on the ECU

weather they do this or not is another matter...... i just started to crap myself at the thought of it.

But for peace of mind, i just declared all the mods and went with Livingstone insurance.

thats whats i thought too

but from my understanding the ECU still has some kind of flash counter thing,
not sure if this can be erased...

My thoughts exactly, all they need to do is plug in and check, then your screwed if you havent declared it!

But.....back to my original question.... is it worth modifying the engine without a remap?!
