Im inclined to agree with you on that Stupra although i can get a Viezu Vswitch for less that a Bluefin with a slightly igher BHP increase from Viezu . I have a friends that has a franchise with Viezu to but unless i stick it on any rolling oad i will never know the exact increase i get from any re map. When we sell our 54 plate Tigra i think ill get it done

Hi all.

I am in the process of changing my car from a VW Passat Sport Estate 2.0tdi 140 CR DPF to a Exeo ST EX Lux 2.0tdi 170.

I have been reading this thread and am a little perturbed at some of the MPG returns for the car.

The Passat I have is 125kg heavier than the Exeo and yet I regularly return in excess of 52mpg. I also frequently get 750+ miles to the tank (both cars have a 70l tank).

I know it is the 140bhp rather than the 170, but I didn’t think there would be that much difference.

As I do 20-25k a year, a 5-10mpg reduction would significantly increase my fuel bills.

I would appreciate any feedback that you can give.

From what i can tell the 170 version uses lots more fuel than the 140 version. Having said that the car is quicker mine is like a bullet and its all standard at the moment. I am somewhat disappointed at the overall MPG of the car tbh and was hoping for something better.

Like i have said before on a different thread there is only two faults with this car

Thanks for the reply.

I took a 170 demonstrator out for a test drive and I have to say I was very impressed with the performance of the car. It was like a rocket.

If the mpg figures are that much lower than the 140 version, I don't think I can justify the additional expense of buying the car and additional fuel to run.

There are mixed responses on here about fuel bills so i can only compare to my last 140 2.0 TDI A3 engine. That was a PD engine and as such was meant to be less economical that the CR engine which the Exeos are.

Oh and the A3 is around 70kg lighter which is the weight of a passenger basically.

With two people and a tank of fuel in the 140 PD engine i was getting around town high 40s and on motorway i was getting mid high 50s. If i drove very carefully i could reach into the 60s.

So my Exeo. Quarter tank of fuel with just me in it. Its now lighter than my A3. Im getting low 30s high 20s around town. On motorway i can now reach 43. I find that very disappointing and frustrating especially as i cant increase the mpg if i drive carefully below 2k etc. If i nail it i lose around 1 or 2 mpg overall.

I would suspect your current care the VW is like my A3 sounds like the same engine. The Exeo is quicker than my A3 and feels nearly as nice there are some areas i have noticed SEAT have trimmed costs such as some of the buttons and lack of exciting design at the front oh and the auto wing mirror retract (which my sisters Fiesta has!!) but im a pain in the arse when it comes to detail so overall the Exeo is a high standard.

Oh on a personal taste, one thing i hate the recess of the dials i have no idea why VAG designed them like that i find them really annoying and hard to see at times.

++++ are the size of the boot its huge, its engine sound, the headlights (Xenon), auto wipers, the price tag and how bloody quick the 170 is.

The main difference between a 140 and a 170 is the slightly lower final drive. I came from a Mk2 Toledo 150 PD, and would regularly get over 60mpg. 77mpg average was my best! With the same driving I managed 60mpg in the 170 Exeo, but i'm doing over 250rpm more than the Toledo, and hyper-miling isn't really practical driving.

It's interesting how people think the 170 is quick. If I'm honest, I'm a bit disappointed. My old 150 felt fantastic, but maybe it's just the delivery that's different, and a softer throttle map? I don't suppose the 200kg weight penalty over my old car helps either, if if I have gained 20bhp.

Originally I was somewhat disappointed with my exeo st 140 sports economy. However as the miles have increased it's been getting better. With summer tires (standard 17") and on faster speed limits (120km/h) I was getting around 5.8L/100km to 6L/100km (47-49mpg). It was slightly disappointing since I used to get the same or better with my octy 2 vrs cr 170 dsg.

Now that I'm running on winter tires, national speed limit is down to winter speeds (100km/h) and there's more miles on the clock.. I'm seeing huge improvements. Granted the winter tires (studless) are 16" so they should have better economy.. Anyway, I'm now getting at best 4.3L/100km (66mpg) which is incredible.

Of course these figures are indicated, so they're probably optimistic. But it makes me happy none the less :)

Before next summer I'm going to get the car remapped to get some more oomph. Going to be interesting to see how that effects the economy on the larger summer tires. Somehow I'm feeling it might actually help with those to have more power.

And did I mention, I'm loving the car! :)

150 miles in and I'm averaging 41MPG (143CR) and it's increasing daily... could be better, but not bad :)

Having owned it for a week now, mixed national speed limit and town driving, it is doing around 46-47 MPG, which compared to my old Leon TFSi is excellent :)

The Dealer filled it up prior to delivery, so I imagine it will be supermarket fuel... I have just filled up with Shell VPower Diesel, which I intend to use... cleaner for the DPF... I hope:D

Will see how it goes over the next few weeks, but initial thought are good...

I've hit 750+ miles and my average MPG is around 46MPG daily and 50MPG on a run, so getting better all the time :)

How long were you driving with the fuel-light on, to get 750+ out of a tank?

I've only ever risked doing about 50miles.....

IIRC it's a 70L tank, so 15.5 gallons, so to get 750 miles you need to be doing 48mpg, which fits with what you're saying.

Also fits with what the trip computer is telling me I'm doing in mine, but I've only ever reached 650miles......

I guess it's mainly to do with the amount of fuel in the tank when the light comes on..... and how far people are prepared to risk going until they potentially run-out !!!! :lol:

When I posted that I got 710 miles out of mine back in the summer, the trip computer said I had 15 miles in range left. I did get 48mpg out of it, best I have ever got. (Bluefinned 170PS Sport Tourer)

Nice one, my mistake for mis-reading your original post !!! ;)

I'm hitting a constant 48mpg now, with the #2 trip currently running at about 3,500miles. It only runs up to 5k I think, then has to be reset, which is a shame!
It runs to 9999miles on trip 2 then it stops.

Mine was at 9999 when I got it - I'll assume the previous owner wasn't that interested in the economics of ownership.:blink:

Mine is averaging 38mpg (143 ST SE TDi) but I've only done 160 miles since I bought it, and my commute has been hampered by the weather this week. I'm still learning to drive a diesel again after 2 years in a pertol Alfa.

Using trip 1, I've seen 44mpg on the non snowy days.

Journey is 15 miles each way
- 2 miles 30mph A/B roads
- 5 miles M6 75mph
- 6 miles A road 50mph
- 2 miles B roads 30 mph.

My expectations were high, but tempered by the wife's A2 TDi at 60+mpg.:-o

Happy so far...........:clap:

I've currently driven about 10,000km total and my average (calculated) for that is 51,5mpg. And as stated earlier the economy is improving constantly...

most of my driving is extra urban at around 80-100km/h.

Great mpg from 143ps diesel

I've had my Exeo ST 2.0 tdi 143ps for 1 week and done 400 miles, nice :D
I do a 25 mile commute to work, mainly A roads, and am sticking to the speed limits which has been helped this week with the poor road conditions. Initially I got around 45mpg which has increased each day and I got 56mpg yesterday - amazing :clap:
All mpg figures are from the average journey display '1'. I am keeping revs between 1100 and 1600rpm, basically following the change prompts on the display. I would never have driven with such low revs before and was typically doing between 1500 and 2000rpm with my last Seat, a Leon FR tdi 170ps. The low revs possible with this car definitely help with fuel consumption.
Mpg is around 45 after 10 miles and around 50mpg after 15 miles, so if you do a shorter commute dont be too disappointed.
Not sure how much longer I can be so restrained though, must let rip soon ;)

An update to my last message saying that I had achieved mid-50 mpg on my work commutes. I have done some higher speed trips over the past few days including around 150 miles of motorway and consumption has averaged 49mpg in my 2 litre 143ps estate. Am very happy with this which is about 10% better than I averaged with my Leon FR.

Mine has taken a bit of a dip in this cold weather, but I'm averaging mid-40's at the moment with mixed driving. My journeys are an absolute mix of solid, steady 40-50mph that comes to an abrupt halt, a few turnings, junctions and stop-start and then back to 40-50mph.
