My Dirty Fuel Filter with Pictures. Non Service?!

Hi there Guys and Gals,

I really cant understand why Fuel filters are a not included in a Seat Service.

My car has done 58,000 miles and look at the state of it! it was black inside. When I banged it on the floor loads of black bits came out and I have been using Optimax/V power for 30,000 miles which should be fairly clean and im pretty sure the previous owner used the same.

What do you guys think? F.Y.I Im sure my car is running smoother since replacing.

WOW Thats amazing, didnt know they got that bad, just goes to show the petrol these days are not as clean as they make out! Mines due a service in 1000miles, going to be a new filter now me think....

Watch the screw when your unscrewing the bracket holding it in! Mine rounded off so I gotta get back under the sod and drill it out!

Changed mine while my mate was doing my tracking. Thought I might as well since it was just a fiver from him

It's about £7 + vat IIRC.

just watch out for the excess fuel that leaks over your face and arms when changing these.... also make sure you have your ignition off and no keys in the car

Your petrol might be clean when it goes in but the tank isn't and nor are the pipes that all the crap from the tank gets pulled down - hence dirty filter filled with crud. I would change it every 12 months regardless.

I ordered a fuel filter from vag parts before they went bust but they sent me the wrong one.

I have searched but didn't come up with anything.

where is the fuel filter located? is it under the car near the tank as i think ive seen it there ?

In the centre, under the rear.

Pretty much just under rear wheel axel.

If you can't see it, it's probably caked in dirt, mine was lol!

I think these fuel filters are overlooked with every garage and car owner. If it wasnt for SeanyK telling me to change I would have never done it!
