My DIY open cone heatshield

Well after fitting a green open cone to my LCR i felt that if anything the standard airbox performed better. I loved the noise it made and didn't want to get rid of it so instead I decided to make my own heatshield using the bottom half of the standard airbox as the base with an aluminium shield fixed to it, so now it's more of an enclosed kit.
All I can say is I can definately tell the difference now the shield has been fitted, now it seems to spool up a bit quicker than before and just feels less sluggish than with just the open cone. Also I have got rid of the oem air feed and fitted 3" tubing. Heres the pics:

The only thing I need now is a good scoop from the front of the grill to attach to the cold air feed.

Looks good. Back in the day I fitted open cones to my Ibizas, with direct cold air feeds, would deffo of employed you to do this on mine... cheaper than 'other' mnaufacturers... lol

Thanks for the comments, I measured the bottom half of the airbox then it was just trial and error from there really, I made a cardboard template first and kept adjusting until it was right.

cheers

With the bonnet lining on yes... but I've removed mine so there is about an inch gap. I might run some rubber tubing along the top of the shield so it seals against the bonnet.

Looks good mate, could you not modify the top half of the original box, so that it keeps it enclosed, or you wanting to see the cone when the bonnet is up?? ;)

nicely done mate, may have to copy you though ;)

I kept the lower box fitted with my cone but never thought of this style of shield :)

I could make one up for you at £20? The materials cost me about £14. I might do a guide and see if they sell on ebay.

cheers

using "FEEL" battery relocating brackets would give you more room for a less restricted air flow through your 3 inch pipe to the filter.
