It had a few dents in the side and the wheels were corroding.
Got it booked in for window tints, changed side repeators, Spax lowering springs and shocks, de-badged grille and boot, de-locked handles, wheel referb with new tyres and got a quote for all the bodywork to be sorted. Started a bit of work making the engine look better. Fitted a front strut brace (and rear), Samco intake pipe and red HT leads from a Cupra Sport. Managed to pick up a Tiger Stripe half-leather interior too Got all the dents sorted and the rear wiper removed and smoothed. Also fitted a Magnex CAT back exhaust with a de-CAT pipe.
Managed to pick up some new wheels and brakes The time then came for more power. I managed to pick up a cheap written-off Cupra from ebay. Stripped everything out ready to put in the GTi.
Work began last January, booked a week off of work and with alot of help from Ben, managed to strip her down and rebuild within a week! Fitted alot of new parts and trick bits along the way.
I took it on track at Brands and handling still wasn't great. So I ordered some Nuespeed Anti-Roll Bars (25mm front, 28mm rear) and Poly-bushed the front wishbones. Re-fitted the front grille with the badge and got some german style number plates. It now has a Laguna front mount intercooler, Stage one remap and more silicone hoses under the bonnet. With Blueflame exhaust Just looking out for some coilovers and a few other bits.
very very nice mate, have you put the interior from the newer cupra in it. will be the b***ocks with coilovers, although i think i would of preferred the debadged grill.
Thanks The interior in the 1st post was the original interior. The "Tiger Stripe" one in the other posts is the one that's in it now. The de-badged grille was nice, but i think i prefer it with the badge now. Might consider the FK badgeless one though. I'm also considering getting the wheels done black or anthracite. Engine bits go in for painting tomorrow!
Cheers I was never a fan of the Cupra dash but it made it alot easier as everything went in where it should. If i'd of kept the Mk2 dash then i'd of had to find places to put various switches etc...and used the Mk3 doorcard for the eleccy windows too.Grown to love the dash now though.
I dunno. I like it how some people reckon it's a telly screen in the middle! I reckon it looks quite a modern dash for it's age! Nice to see someone doing something different anyway!
if changing the wheel colour, anthracite would work better than black i think. the dash is very smart and brings the interior up to date a bit. used to have a cupra sport myself. still like em when done right. wished i'd have been on this forum when i had mine though.
I'm just waiting to hear back on some coilovers, if i don't get them then i'll be getting the camber and tracking sorted, 4 new tyres and it'll be out on track again!
Thanks. There's still alot that needs sorting, but as everyone says, a modified car is never finished!
I'm not really sure. When i took it on track it hadn't been mapped so was quite slow. I haven't been up against anything similar, or even measured a 0-60 time. When it's back on the road i'll let you know
