    Has not anybody downloaded and used this new map yet? If I had car I would already install the new map.

    I really hope you are right, but I am guessing their promise..

    "Check for outstanding vehicle safety, software and product enhancements on SEAT's database"

    relates to ECU etc software, not sat nav. Unless the VW/Skoda updates work, there may be a few "discussions" in a few months time.

    A little bit of provado knowing you don't have to do it. I should add I am very loathe to be the guinea pig, being a 65 year old techno phobe, what if........? Especially since everything is brand new and hunky dory at present.

    Apols Roger, my reply was specifically around Kugamans comment about any sort of software.
    Unfortunately I'd tend to agree with you about the satnav updates.

    I was told at the time of purchase, "all map updates are foc", I questioned this and was told without question by my dealer, map updates are free for three years...
    Another case of dealers not singing from the same hymn sheet again...

    Maybe if we find a dealer who will do it, there may well be a queue of cars wanting that dealer to do their service. Now that could be a good marketing tool!!!!

    Or even when service time comes around ask your dealer if updating is included. If he says "no", say thanks, but you will be checking other dealers out.
    That may make them change their tune.

    Hopefully this thread will keep running for a few months yet.

    A call to SEAT UK CS elicited this response. AT present the map updates are chargeable £100-£120. I pointed out that their sister companies Skoda and VW have a dedicated section for updating the software FOC. There is a VW/Skoda page that takes you to a NAVTEQ Skoda VW branded landing page with full instructions for downloading and installing the updates.
    CS said that SEAT UK were looking at sharing good practice within the group and that in the future thye might have a similar system.
    He also offered that updates were released around September and March via the NAVTEQ site

    Enlightening post. Can anyone see SEAT UK charging those sums for updates now, when their parent company does not...?

    Interestingly the German configurator shows a €120 option for 'MapCare' which I believe would be the updates...
    Looks like they won't be free in the SEAT brand.

    Hi all, in my quest to update my satnav I used the info the two members kindly posted up and Cybergene discovered the seat connection inside the files

    I came across the golf download back in march whilst trying to add speed camera poi's to the infotainment system,but wasn't sure it could be used on the seat until Cybergene post the above info.
    I've nearly craked adding speed camera poi's to the satnav and will post up a file once I get it to work correctly

    Anyway back to the point of the post

    Haa anyone had any luck loading these updates into their Leon?
    I've put the updated files onto an sd card and loaded it into my Leon, but it loads but says no string found?

    Do I need to break the files down more, load less or maybe arange the files some other way?

    I loaded them to the sd card using the instructions that skoda/vw use for downloading their files

    Has anyone have any suggestions?

    As unless seat decide tofollow vw's lead and give us free updates, working out how to get these free updates to work would be very useful for us mk3 owners

    I have tried this too with the 36 version - started by doing a file by file comparison on the existing data with the new data. Lots of files the same, plenty of differences in the config files - but mainly where additional items have been added to POI, the map data itself was different but that was expected too.

    You HAVE to use the same card as the existing, but just make a backup before you start fiddling and all is ok - that was suggested earlier, but you can never repeat enough about backups after I have screwed myself over so often by not! Tried a Class 4 and Class 10 8gb card, but the sizes were different than the car's own card - maybe that's how the system tells them apart.

    Straight copy to the new card - errors with invalid map data after trying to load for a while, even copying the maps alone with the rest of the existing folder structure didn't work so there must be something causing the error within the map files themselves (right?)

    Opening the map files was no help, I haven't managed to find an app that reads them yet so they were just garbled....will carry on looking though.

    All the POI info is all in XML format so easily checkable and changeable if you know XML....pretty dull though ;)

    No luck so far but will keep on trying stuff.

    I have also tried with the 036 update over the original SD card but with no luck :( I'd hate it if I have to pay for SEAT updates when other brands get their updates for free.

    I wonder if there is a system like on the Garmin GPS devices where they need to be signed/activated somehow. On Garmin devices where the content is on SD card / microSD, the physical card itself has a serial number and a special file has to have the correct string/code associated with the cards serial number to work.

    I wonder if this is the same case for Leon mk3 SATNAV systems. It would be interesting to perform a binary diff from one owners 'Factory' SD card against another 'Factory' SD card (same release version). It may show a file or two different which might give a clue to this puzzle...

    Good thoughts there, it could be worth checking two owners SD cards to see if there is any difference....anyone close to anyone else with the same update on their cards?

    Reading some other forums it seems that the SD card data in root directory "DbInfo.txt" contains information that seems to marry up with numbers stored in the ECU.

    I read "...validated through the J794 module"
    <CODE>
    Address 5F: Information Electr. (J794) Labels: None
    Part No SW: 5F0 035 846 HW: 5F0 035 846

    VCID: E5CA304AE44AF7369D5

    Media Player Position 1:

    Engine Control Module 2:
    Subsystem 2 - Part No SW: 5F0 919 866 C HW: -----------
    Component: ECE 2013 --- 0021
    Serial number: --------------------
    </CODE>

    This tallies up with the number on the SD card DbInfo.txt
    <QUOTE>
    ...
    PartNumber4="5F0919866C "
    ...
    ApplicationSoftwareVersionNumber="0021"
    SystemName=" ECE 2013 "
    </QUOTE>

    Perhaps someone has already tried using the SD card, update with new maps, but use the old DbInfo.txt? Otherwise using a VCDS and read and modify the info for J794 module (if accessible)?

    Just sharing information. I could try first option since I don't have a cable for VCDS (yet)

    Just an interesting update.

    Last night I decided to try to duplicate/clone the SD card as I was worried about possible partition/hidden data as a form of protection. I discovered that the SD card supplied with the car (SEAT Navigation AT Europa V2) has the part number AF8GSDP but has a capacity of 8.3GB not the usual 8GB as other commonly available SD cards you can buy in the shops.

    I think this in itself is a form of protection and helps the NAV unit authenticate if its a valid device (I am making big assumptions here).

    Needless to say my clone of the SD card onto a 16GB SD partitioned exactly like the original one didn't work. Also using a standard 8GB SD card formatted to FAT32 with the files copied from the original also fails to work.

    I will need to experiment with the SD that came with the car from now on.

    You can always back up the original SD card and put it back on when you've finished tinkering
    Taff.

    Popping AF8GSDP into Google throws up what appears to be just a generic 8GB SD card, its weird your getting a size of 8.3GB when you would normally end up with sub 8 due to formatting.

    Not succeeded yet!

    Loaded SW ver. 036 on the SEAT SD card after formatting it. The SatNav unit tries to check the database and after some time it pops up a message "The navigation data in the SD card are not valid. Please check data".

    I then did a quick swap of the DBInfo.txt from the original and tried again. This just means the system endlessly checks the database and never comes up with the map (left it trying for 10mins).

    I assume there must be something coded in the actual files on this release, so for the time being I am going to revert back to the original and then hand change/update the files I think I need. I'll also do a HEX search incase some key part numbers popup. If they do it might be worth hacking the files with the old DBInfo.txt

    If I had the VCDS cable I could try the update of the J794 module, as I think hacking the file system is not really the way to go.
