Can get a rs4 estate with 50k on the clock for 25k. That roomy enough for you? or an older 2000 plate rs4 estate with the more tuneable 2.7 biturbo with 60k on the clock for 18k. I love big power estates. Would love an e-class amg estate.

The OP may be interested in a big engined estate but the running costs make it a non starter for me (much as I would love something like an RS4 ). My own car is a 2002 saab 95 2.3 estate which I have owned from new, but I find myself never driving it these days in favour of the Cupra. The saab is much more comfy on a long run though.

I dont really fancy going down the modding route with my current K1. Too much hassle with insurance. Does the Focus RS hold its value well? Certainly there are a few people selling theirs who must have taken a bit of a hit, which would hopefully mean that I woudlnt if I come to sell in say 2 - 3 years.

I guess there will always be a market for a good used RS so I would expect the residuals to hold up very well. Particualrly as manufacturers are being forced to build greener cars. The kind of people who want to drive a RS will not be bothered about the higher tax, running costs and and emissions.

After seeing Dave's RS at the RS Tuning RR day last weekend I wouldn't even consider the Cupra R especially as you already have a K1

Oh and it has to be in white, with black detailing

Exactly. The RS will always keep its value better, as there will always be a demand for them by the younger generation of car drivers, being an iconic boy racer inspired 'hot hatch'.

While the Cupra R, while very quick, is less mainstream (however more stylish and unique), and doesnt carry that same reputation as a Ford Focus RS.

RS4 running costs are mental.....

discs 500-700 pounds for the front, pads 240-500. MPG in the 16's. Not that quick....

Had one to play with for about two weeks, lovely car if you can afford the running costs though and straightline speed isnt everything

there's been a few threads about the focus rs recently on here, and every time I try to think of reasons not to and the only one I come up with is it really worth my cupra and 10-12k for a rs a couple of years younger?

I wouldnt even pay £10K for an RS (no matter how much more they are really worth, or how much more special they might be) - let alone give up your Mk2 Cupra for one too! :( Horses for courses. ;)

A mapped cupra would keep up with with an RS, not a big enough upgrade to warrant getting a RS, if you mapped the k1 you wouldnt really have to tell the insurance, as its one mod they dont ever check for, inductions/exhaust's are a different ball game.

I think you need to be going for something with abit kore scope than a RS, i cant for the life of me see why they have such a big following, they aint that nice looking, Megane 250 is a better car.

The RS's do get a lot of attention (esp in Ultimate Green!) and the constant popping and banging of the exhaust even in standard tune turns lots of heads, so dont get one if this is not your thing!

They follow in the tradition of the old school cossies as agressive, pumped up steroid freaks of everyday hatches. Personally, I like it but I can understand why some prefer the more sedate lines of a cupra.

They do sound awesome though, by contrast, our K1 sounds like a dyson hoover, but I'll hopefully be fixing that soon with a miltek!

I prefer a more suble looking car with a monster engine, the focus looks like it should be quick, thats one of my issues with it.

focus RS without even thinking about it , looks piss all over the cupra , and the warm feeling knowing everyday you are driving an RS , does it for me everytime.
the kudos of owning one is worth the experience of anything.

Al has bought his second leon and i think regrets he did.

most RS i have seen are holding their price well still around the £20k mark.

someone mentioned that the cupra with a remap is quicker , who cares its an RS !

My cupra would shock a standard rs, but what would a mapped rs do, it's all relative. I'm a believer you should own an rs in your lifetime, the closest I got was a keyring with my mkII escort way back!!
