NEW Highflow K04 exhaust manifold and hybrid 372bhp on lupo

    Fitment in situ is how I did it.. so much easier than tubular mani I could mention.. Turbo fixings are all on top like OE for easy fitment also.

    I am going to knock together a little fitting guide as there is a sequence I found (the hard way) on a couple of nuts.. All do up with real spanners/socket/extentions from underneath.

    As with oe k04's the turbo itself shrouds some of the fixings, but once connected by its lines, but demounted off it support bracket it can easily flop down out of the way whilst you do up the mani to head nuts.

    ORDERS Being taken on next stock delivery currently.
    ALL existing stock has been sold.

    More stock *should* be available in 2-3 weeks time.

    Porting service on "Supplied, Loose" hotsides to get them port matched to the 'upsize' is £70.83+vat
    There will be additional charge for turbos supplied complete if they are 'used' as they may require some work to persuade them apart, which will be hourly rate charged. If the supplied unit is "new" there is no charge as they should dismantle ok.

    Okies.. Reviewing the overall costs of these, and consummables in machining them @ CNC shop and post CNC here... There will be a small increase in sales price on any manifolds not already ordered.

    Price will be £312+vat going forward

    Price includes, High flow K04 exhaust manifold, Exhaust manifold gasket to head, turbo to manifold gasket, stainless steel turbo to manifold bolts, and nordlock washers.

    UK Delivery is £10.70

    Just a little worried about the mani to turbo bolts, heard lots of horror stories of them snapping etc..

    Are there any methods you use to make sure they come out whole everytime or is it just a case of praying lol? Would it be a good idea to take the car out for a drive and try taking them out whilst still hot? Or would some penetrating fluid be just as good?

    You refer to your old setup I presume.
    OE bolts can be a PIA in my experience.. Daft headed things which are often very tight, resulting in spinnig off the heads edges.. I have had to drill/dremmel off the top of these on occasions. They get cooked in there.

    Praying cant hurt, nor can copious amounts of anti seize spray etc

    Its one of those.. Urghhh jobs

    What do you think of Mad Max's intension over on Vortex to weld an external waste gate on top of the mani collector area. Interesting idea but do you think the standard ported K04 hybrid will benefit from this supersized wastegate relief.

    as you know I am involved in that debate...
    Its an interesting idea.. His spec turbine however I think is just RS6 turbine, so smaller than the K16 dans used on a few of our hybrids.. loosing the wastegate divider has opened its discharge outlet up well, so IF that is a restriction he will have helped things. Max's figures he has achieved I have always struggled to understand however, running so much timing and boost, and it surviving etc..... I can only think based on what FT Doug said he observed is the "apparent" ign timing may have looked high, but actual relative compression ratio may have been way less becuase of excessive backpressure holding exhaust valves open...
    Difficult to say, but I think its true.. We know they will generate a lot of back pressure..

    Relieving this by upsizing, larger wheels, porting hotsides etc, to me help convert the back pressure into flow... = More Power from same/less effort.

    Max is on E85 which is a game changer relative to what we have to run as pump fuel.
    Olsten said to me a while back he saw 40% torque gain from switching to e85 when he did it.. His car makes awesome power for its turbo spec..

    Its lively debate on vortex especially when the muppet joins in.... :p

    When measuring the max egt's using the factory probe, Do you take the max value as the max displayed by vagcom ie the highest temp recorded including the overshoot of egt when load is removed or do you only use the max measured temp on load. When I saw my car on the dyno the second the load was removed (end of run) the mani would immediately stop glowing but according to the egt probe the temp still rises until a sec or two latter. Probably caused by the residual heat in the turbine housing.

    Good call on the fitting guide, I've tracked a facom midget spanner down for future use. The other spanner in the picture must be a B5 home brew.....looks perfect. [B)]

    max seen.. so the worst case high temp, which as you say is the vcds "lag" logged egt

    homebrew spanners essential some 1.8t's - lol

    Bill can i reserve one of these ported manifolds for my LCR running Hybrid KO4 please, let me know a week or two before available and il bring my KO4 to you to port the hotside :)
