Hi Guys

Just picked up a 2011 TDi CR and on the drive home I noticed the speedo isn't working!

Don't ask me how the hell I didn't notice this on the test drive lol

Also fuel gauge seems to go a bit wonky turning Right?

I have seen this can be quite common, but the other weird thing is the radio, only the dash speakers seem to be working? tried looking in the settings but I can't even see an option to balance between front and back like some others cars?

Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated (before I decide I have just thrown my cash away :(

Only:- oh bother I hope you got it for sweetie money!

You now need to go back and search where you found the information that these can be common issues and take it from there, good luck.

Which engine type/size/power does it have just in case you need to swat up on its possible issues?

The car was a steal at £0000 with 104.500 Miles

But does have a few issue's to sort out before it's 100% again ;)

It's a 1.6 TDi CR BTW

The search box (top right) is your friend.

You'll surely find all the previous threads about those issues.

Tried that, but nothing relating to my speaker issue's pops up there

Few threads regarding Speedo and Fuel gauge though so cheers :)

I'm guessing there are no rear speakers due to the lack of fader option in the menu (unless I just can't find that option lol)

So it's either a dodgy head unit (doubtful as everything else works) or BOTH front speakers have gone?

But again I am in doubt of that being the case, as in my experience when a speaker blows it sounds like crap, not just stops making any kind of noise at? and both making no sound is even more suspect :headhurt:

I have been lucky enough to not ever have come up against these issues, it does sound like that car does not have rear speakers fitted, the dash ones are only tweeters are they not - so nothing coming out of the door mounted speakers, strange, time to get a door card/trim off then.

If you know someone that has VCDS it should be able to check for logged faults on the audio system, gives you a notional starting point before ripping hard plastic trims off in cold weather - I'd expect that Carista would also reveal any audio logged faults as well as OBDeleven.

Yes it does sound like they are just Tweeters in the dash (quite annoying sound lol)

I was unaware that an ODB scanner would pick up on any audio issue's though?

I am pretty OK with car audio electrics, so will no doubt be out there in the cold at some point taking the cards off to investigate further.

Although some differing opinions on how to remove the door cards, with some saying to just get to the speaker it's just a few screws, and some others saying you need to remove the glass from the regulator to remove the cards?? (Mine is a 2011 3 door coupe BTW)

I had a quick look on-line RE the clocks issue, and some suggesting a broken or stretched wire under the battery tray may be the culprit, my local mechanic suggested this as a possible cause too so a good starting point I guess.

But also some talk of a cluster fault, which is just as simple from what I have seen, as a used cluster off eBay is under £50!

But as the fuel gauge goes wonky when turning corners, my 1st best guess would be the wire (being pulled while turning the corner)

And finding a used cluster with close to the original Miles may not be as easy haha

Wish me luck, and I will report back once I have any further news ;)

I wouldn't have thought so. Inside the tank is a sensor that detects the level of the fuel. When you go round corners, the fuel will slosh to the side a bit and the sensor, which is usually in the middle, will detect this as a drop in fuel level. To get around this there is a delay in the gauge responding to what the sensor says. My guess would be that the bit responsible for the delay, wherever it is, is kabluey.
