THE HOT NEW SEAT LEON CUPRA £19,595 FOR 240 PS

SEAT has revealed the UK price for what is arguably the most eagerly awaited hot hatch of 2007; the new Leon Cupra.

And at just £19,595 RRP on the road for 240 PS worth of energetic performance, it is set to create quite a stir when it arrives in the UK next March.

I think it's a missed point on the PR (will chase for specs)

if brembo's are standard - it actually makes the car a bit of a bargain IMO

Base FR + Ipod, Bixenons, 18's - 40bhp more, RS4 seats (how much are they on the S3!), brembo's

all add up to way more than £19,6

No need for BT, as the tomtom will have that feature (if they're still giving them away)

Journo's in my experience are very blinnkered, and rarely appreciate something that is 'fun' - that or they go the other way & want the cornering ability of a WRC car.

I'm looking forward to having a go in one now

Apparently the Brembo's are not an option in Europe until Feb/March 2007, which puts it in the same time frame when the UK will receive their first cars.

So the roll out of the Brembo option, may coincide with the UK launch.

Hello guys. In answer to some of your points re. new Leon Cupra:

To be fair to the dealers, the pricing bulletin was submitted late today, a little after the press release, which went out this morning. So that dealer wouldn't have been aware of either price or on-sale date at that time. At least now all parties are aware of price and spec.

The car's official on-sale date is 1 March. The fitment of Brembo brakes, which were shown on the motor show display cars, is still to be confirmed, and I will keep you posted on this subject as soon as we hear more.

The six black cars driven earlier this week by UK press were all hand-built prototypes. By the time the car arrives next year, there will be a slight modification to the grille. Whereas initial test cars have a chrome frame to the now-familiar SEAT kidney grille (as per all other Leons), on the Cupra this will be polished Ebony black, to match the mirrors and pillars.

I think that the review in Auto Express this Wednesday will be very positive (he says, tempting fate!).

By the way, though I didn't get the opportunity to drive the car this week, I was passenger to a journalist, who didn't hang around on some particularly hairy mountain roads in Northern Spain. The car felt absolutely rock-solid and totally confidence-inspiring. Performance, grip and poise are all astounding. And the tweaks to the exhaust are most evident at the red line. On more than one occasion, I overheard journalists describing the noise as 'raspy'. Take it from me, this is a top-notch hot hatch.

Hi,
I was told by my local dealer some time last week that the release date for the cupra had been put back from late this year to march next year, and that the reason for this was an issue with the brakes. And he sugested that Seat were saying that the brembos used on the previous cupra r were not up to the job really and that they were now looking at putting the same brakes as fitted to the Golf R32. Shame really as i need to change my car before the middle of January and it looked like a good car to replace my existing cupra r.

Well that reply just goes to prove that this really is the best forum for "enthusiastic" SEAT owners. Thank you very much Mike from PR for posting. Please make sure it becomes a regular thing!!

looking closley at the pics on the main site from yesterday, the front calipers look rather like twin pots used on the previous R32,not quite as fat/chunky as brembos, but i can't see how they will be better than a set of brembo's though, and they have gone to AP racing for the current ibiza cupra stoppers.

edit: deffinately has the retaining spring on the caliper edge on the main site pics

They appear bigger than the R32 calipers of old, by the looks of it.

They are still big disks and the calipers fill a lot of that wheel. But my preference would be Brembo's, they have become an icon of the Cupra R, and certainly a plus point, and they add that little bit of something extra, that marks it out against other cars in the segment, i really hope they keep them.

That could of course just be a Euro spec motor

Unless they're keeping the Brembos and the BIG K04 for some kind of "Super-Cupra", something in line with the R32 and R-GTi.

R-Cupra perhaps :cartman:

You say that about Brembo brakes but manufacturers are going away from them (Jaguar for example) as they are not capable of stopping the car as well as others. I have also been told than Brembos will not be fitted and R32 brakes will be used. Perhaps Mike can confirm this?
