Hello from a newbie,

Just got a 2.0 SX T reg which has been lowered on the front (Bilstein VNE-4122 says the struts) standard rear - why or why ??? Anyway is rumbling which comes and goes. Noise is not dependent on bumps or turning. Its not a whine, disks and pads are fine. Thinking driveshaft, CV ? any suggestions for this model ?
Can't investigate much as locking wheel nut is rusted on so can't get wheel off and just ended up rounding nut ! Do these have any issues if lowered too much, seems very low to me.

Any thoughts gratefully recieved.
Cheers Rupert

If it is really slammed then it may well be a cv. try and get under it and have a look at the cv...if its pointing up in the air then it will have too much load on it and you will chew through em. If it is a cv replace and raise the susp a little and keep tweaking it until you get a trade off between rubbing and handling and looks.

But having it slammed does put more load on the joints etc.

got garage to drill out broken locking nut, so with wheel off it was the large 288 disc rubbing on the n/s caliper. Chucked on standard vented discs and its ok, so assume just warped or imperfection with that n/s disc. Theres still a rubbing of tie rod on cv gaiter though as the car is still sitting very low.

Also now with the wheel off, the strut has movement.
They are labelled as Bilstein VNE-4122 struts.

Checking the Bilstein website its says:- (wait for it)

BILSTEIN
Suspension Strut
BILSTEIN - B4 Gas
VNE-4122

This article is suitable for the following models:
VW
Model Year of construction
from - to
GOLF III (1H1) 08.91 - 08.97
GOLF III Cabriolet (1E7) 07.93 - 05.98
GOLF IV Cabriolet (1E7) 06.98 - 06.02
VENTO (1H2) 11.91 - 09.98

so its got the wrong struts !

Anyone recommend particular replacements ?

forgot to update this - turned out to be wheel bearing and hub flange as the bearing breaking up had worn away at the flange. Should have change the bearing before it got too bad. It cost £70 for the flange from local seat dealer :-(
