Just an update as I've received some PM's regarding this.

It was the windscreen seal and a second application of sealant solved it!

I would have cracked the windscreen by 'accident' and then had it replaced with the £50 excess on the insurance. I'd then have told the RAC auto windscreens place to pay particular attention to the seal when fitting

Yup that was an option also and when I broke a wiper arm I was going to! but I would rather sort it myself.
