One of the best touring car races you'll ever see!

Finally somebody's uploaded the full video onto Youtube of the 1992 ToCA Shoot Out. Lots of placeswapping, some nudging, no really blatant contact and the best touring car circuit there is.

Oh and listen in to Robb Gravett complaining that "Matthew Neal has hit me again".

Wow that is something alright, Looks faster than modern BTCC for some reason!

Proper touring car racing, WAY better than the stuff we get today. This was what got me into motorsport. I remember going to Knockhill to watch these cars in action, they were much faster and sounded so much better.

Matt Neal has always bashed people out the way his entire career - bad, dirty driver.

It was a whole lot more expensive then too don't forget... he with the biggest budget takes mostest shiny stuff. Hence the evolution into what we have today.

Key points - too noisy for the whingey (dunno how to spell that) people living near circuits hence the restriction we now operate to

Faster - more speed usually = more expensive and it had got completely out of control cost-wise at this point

I sort of agree that it was better then in some ways but no point in dwelling... I think you'll find this year rather exciting! ;)

Talking to Rikard Rydell some years back he did comment that he missed the power & grip they super tourers ran.

Hopefully the turbo can help make up the shortfall (especially once they can up the boost some) in speed

I just get all nostalgic at that sort of thing because I wish I was 10 years older and could have followed it all at the track back then rather than only on TV! :)

I look forward to seeing what this year brings and hope the turbocars bring some of the speed back.

The BTCC was at its best early to late 90's... Soon as it hit 2001/2 everything started to get less exciting IMO.

26 minutes of my life very well spent!

What happened to that level of racing with all those manufacturers/works teams? Dang economic climate! And it was so much more 'crowd pleasing' even in the sense of Rob Gravett giving us all a running commentary. Drivers weren't as big-headed IMO as they are today. Even some club drivers are far too arrogant for their own good in this day and age.

I still reckon that race Jason Plato had in the Leon after he was burned in a fifth gear car accident was the best race I ever seen...

That was the first race my wife watched - She never understood my fascination with Touring Cars until then... Think it was because it was someone she knew (from mainstream tv) Gives me the excuse to watch/go more often :D

What the one where Matt Neal in a Honda with a VXR contract in his back pocket blatantly helped the Vauxhalls and Plato won nothing at the end of it? The battle between the two BMWs at the front was pretty good though.

Interesting how some of the best races were at Donington!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryQK8xCIztc - I remember watching that from SEAT Hospitality with Z

I'm glad I was there to see that race. I was the one jumping up and down at Redgate/Hollywoods like a lunatic when Cleland was leading. Made a 23 year old feel 13 again watching all the names from my childhood battling it out. :)

Donington rarely throws up a processional race in the BTCC, it's just a perfect circuit for it.

Brands Hatch my local and when the Super Tourers we're on I was there without fail.

They we're much better than current or 2001 on spec cars and went like the clappers. I do miss those days.

As much fun as it's been with close battles for the title etc, some of the Super Tourer battles we're insane.

Also it cost out of control cost wise late 90's not early 90's.

BTCC will always be my favourite form of motorsport, but the best days I will remember upto the age of about 15, then it got slow ;)

Indeed, him and Anthony Reid were terrible for ramming people off the track and blatantly cheating to win.

Mind you, who remembers when Steve Soper deliberately rammed straight into John Cleland so Tim Harvey could win the championship?

I wouldnt have been around for that one but I have seen it replayed somewhere...
