Overheating problem

Hi I've gota 52 plate Cupra (not R) it's suddenly started overheating, if I keep it to 2000 revs it's fine at 90 degrees but take it upto 3000 or above and it shoots straight up to 120 degrees. The water level is fine no sign of any leaks external or into the oil. So I'm guessing it could be a thermostat problem.

Can anyone offer any advice, bit worried cos I'm working all day tomorrow then driving to Newcastle tomorrow night so need to sort it!

Cheers

As mentioned above, sounds like the water pump is on its way out.
I (and many others on here) have experienced exactly the same symptoms and it was the water pump.

Afraid it means a new water pump (metal impeller version although allegedly the OEM replacement has been updated with a better spec plastic one). Also get the cam belt (including new tensioner roller and tensioner) fitted while you are there.
As for your trip to Newky, I would look to getting a hire car I'm afraid.

Also meant to say, from what I've read on here, a faulty thermostat gives random fluctuating temperatures, usually between 0 to 90 degrees.
