Parking sensor problem

Has anyone had a problem with front parking sensors going off when ever you get below a certain speed. I'm assuming it's falsely detecting that I'm close to hitting something.

It started yesterday, I wiped the sensor that I suspected was causing the problem, and it seemed to stop doing it. It was ok this morning, then I washed the car and the problem came back again.

See pics, I'm assuming it's the sensor next to the number plate. There is something odd about the surface of the sensor, it's almost "bubbled" up a bit.

Any ideas if it's anything I can look at doing myself, or is there very little option other than a visit to the over so friendly dealers??

I had it in my last Seat and this one, I think it's interference from other car's parking sensors. Renault's in particular seem to trigger mine a lot.

I don't think it's that in this case, because that pic was taken sat on my drive with no other cars running around. Annoyingly, looks like I might have a real problem.

Either it's taken a direct hit from a stone or someone's bumped your car in a car park or something even a slow speed impact can screw them up

Yeah i'm guessing it must be stone damage or similar. It's had that "finish" for an age, but it hasn't been a problem until a couple of days ago.

Is it a coloured cover on the front of the sensor, or are there different coloured sensors??

It's definitely intermittent. I've done a 300 mile round trip today. At the start of my journey this morning it was doing it all the time, mid way / when I got there, it was intermittent - but more often that not it was causing problem. On my way home, it was still intermittent, but more often that not OK. Hopefully it sorts it self out!

Mine seem to behave a bit weird when moving slowly, and behind another car - it only seems to set off the sensors on the side where the car in front exhaust seems to be - wonder if it's the heat setting them off - or just my car saying I'm being an idiot and getting too close!

I reckon it's just that, when on a driving course with an ex police instructor he reminded me of the T and T rule, stop far enough back from the vehicle in front so you can see T and T, tyres and tarmac, several reasons for this not least that a shunt up your rear may not push you into the car in front.
OP, It could just be a faulty sensor, we change quite a few at the dealer I work in, usually due to constant tones, but, that is of course after they've been faulty for a while.

I follow that rule :) but always thought my sensors didn't think that was the case. Its only when moving slowly in traffic, and usually on warmer days. Does drive me mad when it happens but it doesn't happen enough to make me take it to the stealers.

Hi Matt

Did you get anywhere with your sensor? Mine is now going off all the time when below 10mph but instead of off/side mine is nearside next to number plate. I also have the same symptoms as you where the sensor feels like it has a bubble under the paint/on top of the sensor.

I know this isn't other cars interfering as yesterday I was waiting at a roundabout with no cars in front of me and it started as soon as I slowed down and didn't stop until I pulled off! It's annoying me so much now that I'm ready to turn off all the sensors!!

No, I haven't got mine sorted. It did settle down for a while, but it back being a right pain.

I'm currently planning on trying to work out how to get the old one out / and looking at replacing it.

Does anyone know how they are held / how to get them out. Also what the part numbers are / if you can get them from somewhere other than Seat. I'm assuming they're the same as VW use, and you can get plenty of them on ebay.

Thank you both, that's perfect.

fer b16 - I presume you have to paint the front of the sensor to match the bumper?

Hi Matt, Did you ever get one of these ordered and fitted? Also guessing it needs to be painted to match the bumper and as the car has to go in for some work soon might get this done at the same time.

Cheers!
