Seeing as I'm a newbie I can't see/post on the discussion of bringing back the parts section. So I don't know if this has been said or not so here's my idea. Why not bring it back BUT to start with he a no postage system, I.e the person who wants to buy anything has to collect or the sell has to deliver or meet on a half way basis. That way there is no "PayPal gift" nobody gets ripped off, cash only face to face.... Any good? Also I don't know if you have tried bringing it back in anyway but the post does say that they admin would try to bring it back but not in the immediate future, as far as I can see that post was made in 2009 :S 4years is log enough I think. Apologises in advance if you have brought it back and it didn't work. I just can't see my idea failing, no hassle for admin and if somebody really wants whatever is being sold they would at least try an make the effort to collect. Thanks.

Loads and loads of suggestions have been made, personally I can't see it making a come back any time soon.

Still the #1 source for Seat information though parts for sale section or not :D

You can't see your idea failing?

So what if somebody decides to arrange a sale on the forum and decides to send a PayPal payment and gets ripped off?

There is no measure in place to stop anybody doing it that way is there, so you would be relying on people to operate that way and you can't guarantee it won't happen, before long there will be a post on the site from somebody complaining about being ripped off having paid via PayPal.

Many ideas have been banded around since the parts section got canned and unless there is a more secure way to do it I don't see it coming back.

But if your the other end of the country it would cost more than some of the parts just in fuel? Cheaper for both to use ebay.

Personally I think a for sale section would make the place better, many other forums have them, with a minimum posts rule. This helps get people involved and become part of the forum.

It's just good because we all have much the same cars and much the same requirements etc. I like buying from forums because you tend to find that the stuff is better cared for because you're buying from like minded people who keep things in better condition.

I've bought and sold loads of stuff, via bank transfer, PayPal, cash in hand and never had a single problem. The way I look at it you've got the persons bank details, or PayPal account details and their address. I usually make sure I have a phone number and speak to them beforehand aswell. Of money ever went missing you could always drive to them and sort it out face to face.

I think if it were to come back, with a minimum post count and a selling template then it would be better!

Minimum post count does not solve the issue though, it was found that in some cases people had been long term members with fairly high post counts if I recall correctly.

The only other thing is to have a eBay link section? That way everything is secure. Just do a normal for sale post with an eBay link, would that work at all? Would very much like to see a for sale section for parts again as I'm sure a lot of other members would? Still personally il never "PayPal gift" as you don't have a leg to stand on if it goes wrong.

Still breeds the same issue though because people would try to sell their kit through here without going through the eBay process and being subject to the fees, back to square 1.

Bottom line currently is if you want parts then go straight to eBay.

I agree the parts section was handy and it was free which was a major bonus, but it's gone because there were too many dodgy types willing to rip folk off and the mods kept ketting hassle which they didn't want or need.

Fair enough crafoo, sounds like you've been thinking about this a lot more than me aha. So due to dodgy characters and people not following the rules we've lost a useful section of the forum. Quite surprised its not been as bad on other forums tbh.

I really can't see what the big problem is, every car forum I'm a member of has a parts for sale section and as long as nobody pays via PayPal gift then you're covered anyway?

The trouble was that those that get scammed (often by their own stupidity/naivety) came crying to us, and the common perception towards us seemed to be it was our fault they got ripped off. It got tiresome dealing with the flack.

We didn't like the forum being taken advantage of in that way, maybe that's our own ideals, we don't really like the idea of it being used by people to take advantage of other people.

So at that time we took the decision to can it. For the moment that is where were at.

how do you really think about it though zboyd, as a normal member?

    How about a disclaimer.

Before anyone signs up they cant view the for sale section.

When they sign up they have to click a box that says they are agreeing to the terms of the forum. One term being, any transactions that are carried out in the forums for sale sections are at the buyers/sellers risks.

Any transactions should be made with paypal/cash on collection and not paypal gift to protect the buyer and seller.

And obviously the forum cannot be blamed for any transactions that happen outside of these situations

Or they can choose to not accept the terms and not sign up.

I do think its a loss, we all do, but the whole management of it became a real headache.

However had a little discussion with m0rk today, and we are currently considering bringing it back with a clear disclaimer for a trial period to see how it goes. I'd note though that a disclaimer doesn't always absolve you from the long arm of the law.

So watch this space. We are on it.

Trail period sounds good for the minute, and the accepting of the disclaimer is a brilliant idea! Nothing is then held responsible to the admin, there happy the get no grief and we are all happy we get a parts section back :)

But that opens the door wide open to anyone including scammers. I think its fair that new members contribute something to the forum and that would hopefully put off rip off merchants if they had to get to a certain level of posts before selling.

Can of worms isnt it :)

Thats fair enough, like that on most other forums. Would that work? Any chance of a trail like that?
