Passenger window won't close

This morning I got in the car and wound the window down to clear the water off the window so I could see when pulling off the drive. When I went to close the window, it went all the way up and then opened by itself by about 6 inches and refused to close until i got to work 40 miles later.

It looks to me like the automatic safety feature kicked in that stops the window closing on someones hand. However, there is nothing preventing the window from closing. This is the second or third time this has happened since ihave owned the car just over two years.

Doesn't really bother me that much but if it becomes a regular occurance then I will need a fix.

Has anyone else had this issue and sorted it?

It sounds like there is too much friction so the current sensing device in the motor supply thinks there is something in the way, maybe make sure that the runners are clean top>bottom and along the top edge, and not damaged distorted - if so clean up and straighten out, then apply some spray on silicon lubricant and drive the windows fully up <> fully down a few times to see if you have solved this problem.

The same thing will happen if you don't use the windows, ie open and close them enough, I've never had this issue with VW or Audi cars and I don't or hardly ever open the windows, but my daughter's previous car, a late 2009 Ibiza, did suffer from that quite badly, but it lived outside all its life and my cars get garaged at night and when not in use.

I've had this on my driver's window normally when it's raining and water has got in the switch, the last time it happened I couldn't open the window for about a week.
I sprayed some WD-40 into the switch and then a couple of days later it started working again.
First i'd try the window reset trick, it should tell you in the manual how to do it, or I've seen someone's posted on here before so have a search.

The reset should sort yours out, whereas I think my switch may be buggered so will take it apart and clean it or replace with another one.

I've noticed the one touch close function is a bit jittery on these so it needs the window reset from time to time

Did you manage to sort your problem? I think I've have had water in my drivers switches over the weekend

Soz for the late reply not been on for a while.
It's working for the moment after spraying the WD-40 down it and letting it dry out for a couple of days and not had any issues since.
Not had time to pull it apart and have a look though.
