PD0 gears and Revving

Hi All

any help or advice would be much appreciated, I have a Leon PD170, but now my working situation has changed so I don't use motorways at all

I have use of dual carriageways mainly depending on where I am working, My question is will revving my engine to 2500rpm in 3rd gear to 40mph at every opportunity I get ruin the engine or gear box or have any detrimental effect on the car?

Why would you want to do that ? lowest RPM for better economy or the highest gear possible
