    hey all,
hopefully going to be getting back into a seat soon after my exeo was written off by some humpty .

I've found a 2015 fr technology 1.8 tsi, 31k miles and there asking for just over £10,000.

I was hoping to dip my toes into the dsg market however this one is the manual.

can I ask how heavy is the clutch generally on the manual version? only reason I ask is sometimes my 7 mile drive can take 40-60 mins practically bumper to bumper and I started getting a numb left foot constantly putting clutch in and out every meter before coming to another stop.

do you think I'd be best keeping an eye out for a dsg or would the small amount of travel between stop start not be that kind to a dsg.

    any info would be appreciated

    jay

Stuff the manual for that driving. Sack that off and keep searching for an auto, you will be devastated first trip to work

I agree with BigJase88, hold on for an auto unless you can't.

If you go for a 1.4 tsi there will be a lot more out there as more common than the 1.8 tsi

if you get a 1.4 150bhp should remap well upto 180-190bhp and you will get better mpg than the 1.8.

potentially cheaper tax and insurance too, unsure on the tax as im not aware of the 1.4 and 1.8 bands but just a quick thought

Damaged a nerve in my left leg around 5 years ago and started to struggle with pins and needles etc in a manual but the DSG is spot on in stop / start traffic and so much nicer to driver - to be be honest doubt i'd go back a manual again.

I got my manual 68 plate in nov 2018, had surgery on my left knee in may 2019, so im really really struggling with mine now, can’t wait until the lease is up and i can get a dsg.

is the 150 BHP 1.4 the supercharge/turbo charged version that was in some of the other vag group that had potential timing chain problems or have I been discounting this for the wrong reason?
I wasnt looking to get a remap straight away as took about 2 years of owning an exeo before that indeed started creeping into my head.

what's the 1.4 like for over taking on the motorway after my usual horrendous drive through manchester

No its a turbo only, the original 1.4tsi that was in the likes of the golf mk5 was twin charged with 170bhp and was a dog of an engine

I don't find overtaking a problem on the motorway. It certainly has a good amount of poke for a 1.4.
To clarify i'm on about the 150bhp.

The 1.4 is perfectly fine for overtaking, I dont actually noticed any difference between mine and the previous 1.6 turbo 180 bhp I owned in instance throttle response. Just need to be in the right gear at the right time and it bogs down just before 4000 and has absolutely no power after that.

And defo go for dsg with that kind of driving, I used to drive to london everyday with a manual van, my left calf was twice the size of my right :roflmao:and I still have knee problem to this day because of sitting in traffic in a manual for some many years.

I agree with the lads here, 1.4 auto all day long for that short commute. A good friend of mine has the 1.4 version and loves it, gets good return and they are pretty nippy. The tax is a nice saving over the 1.8 too.

I have the 1.5 tsi with 130bhp and it has more than enough poke for overtaking so a 1.4tsi 150bhp will be no problem, and if you want more fun they do remap to 180-190bhp (1.8tsi power)

the new 1.5 tsi that I have is £130 as new tax laws came in even though it is less polluting than the older 1.4tsi the bands now start at minimum £130 a year, robbing barstewards

Just bought MrsMaypack an FR Black with the 1.5 150bhp so she should be very happy having previously a Leon Xcellence 1.4 125bhp.

    What!!:sleepy:

I have never understood how the tax bands work.

It's possible to have the same car, same engine, same year but because they are different model years the tax can vary by hundreds. Mazda 6 mps being the perfect example.

They gota make money somehow I guess but at least keep it consistent!

I have a manual 1.8 TSI. Brilliant car, I love it, but I can confirm that stop start traffic into cambridge is a bitch on the calves and knee. I much prefer driving my brothers automatic when I can, plus my new car is DSG.
