Hi All,

Recently I have just parked the car(SEAT IBIZA 2006 -Petrol 1.2L) in parking and went for some shopping, When I came back steering did not move, became very heavy and Steering warning lamp is yellow(ON) continuously.

Then myself and my friends thought it might be problem with Fluid level, As we are on road we just bought the fluid(In Halfords) and topped up little and tried starting then Power steering started working. I thought the warning is due to power steering fluid and happy that it is solved.

Next day I thought I will top-up the fluid up to maximum point and topped up up-to maximum point. Then I tried started the car again then steering yellow warning was back again. So I dont know what to do as garages are closed up to Monday, few garages told they cannot deal with power steering problems. After that also, sometimes Power steering works and some time not works (with yellow warning light), Not sure what is the problem.

Fluid level is good and Battery is good (Recently changed).

Can you please suggest if anyone had this experience before/know about this issues?

Regards,
Saravana

Maybe check that the fuse that supplies the power to the steering pump is not cracked - a known potential problem, it is one of the metal fuse links in the fuse collection on top of the battery. It could also be a problem with the alternator charging system - maybe even just a partially fractured wire.
I think that your best plan is take that car to a VAG indie and get them to scan it for logged faults as all you are doing right now is guessing as are we.

Mine came on and lost power steering. After I had a jump start at airport car park after a holiday.
Drove home no problem.unloaded car.started car up.no power steering.
Next morning battery flat. My mate got a new battery for me. Started car up no warning light on.power steering working.
My mate stripped down power steering at his garage. Couldn't find a problem.
He said battery was the problem.

Power steering is heavy on the battery. Make sure the alternator is charging the battery. Its common for the Load Signal wire to break and stop the battery getting charged properly

I think that the charge control/sense wire breaking is more a TDI issue as these engine jumps all over the place (rough as badger's bums), petrol engines, well normally aspirated 4 cylinder ones are very smooth and so don't move around a lot so don't normally end up breaking these wires, though maybe just a few 3 cylinder are doing that?

'Loss of communication in Power steering' -Diagnostic error

Hi All,

Thanks for suggestions, Today I went down to VAG Inde (Specialised Workshop), They have checked using diagnostic and logged error shows 'Loss of communication in Power steering'. I have booked in on Thursday (Fro repair) to check more on that. They have told they need to really open and see if any wiring problem or something else (On that day). I have also told them to check on battery and charging system on that day.

We will wait and see what is the problem and I will let you know guys. Please do let me know if any of them got the 'loss of communication' error.

Regards,
Saravana

if that loss of comunications is real and not because they are not doing the right procedure to read the errors then you will need a new steering pump

Hi Dm222, If steering pump is damaged or faulty how it works in between, I am getting the power steering fault light some time and power steering not works that time only other times it is ok, So I thought it might not be permanent problem.

Actually that is a prove its the pump.

This pumps are electric, they get water inside and become intermitent.

Thank you dm222 for clarification, At-least now I am able to expect what are all might comes oura as a problem. I will let you tomorrow once it is confirmed by Workshop.

Ps: at least is the most likely possibility, sorry about that.

You can buy a new one online for about 300€ or used on ebay for much less.

Could also be the g250 sensor. But that would give a different error.

My Ibiza did the same thing when I got it, previous owner had spent a ton of money at garages having stuff inspected and replaced, new battery fixed it immedietly.

Stick a new battery on and chances are the problem will stop, otherwise you end up chasing random fault codes for parts that aren't actually faulty - and that can get VERY expensive.

This is the errors i was getting. make sure that load sensor is not the fault petrol or diesel they all get the fault. can test this by driving the car and looking at the battery voltage

Hi All,

Today I have given car to VAG inde garage, They have diagnosed and found the problem that 'FAULT DUE TO FRACTURED FUSE (POWER STEERING PUMP FUSE 50A)' . They have replaced the fuse and Power steering started working now. Thanks for all of your suggestions.. I have paid £31.50 pounds for total 0.5 hr work.

Thanks,
Saravana
